anal fissure, 1 year of absolute hell!!!!!!!!!!!

hi everyone my name is jordan (25) and i am currently having to deal with possibly the most annoying and fustrating condition in the world, or so it feels from where im sitting at the moment. I have always suffered with an irritable bowel , and from time to time with this came small doses of hemroids which was unpleasant but with a few lotions would subside after a few days.

But about a year ago i developed symtoms which felt very very uncomfatable , i started getting a strong pressure in my anus and with this a very irritating itch would occur around my anus also. I went to the doctor diagnosing my self with what i thought was just hemroids , so backward and forwards i went to my GP getting all kinds of creams and ointments for hemroids which didn't do a single thing to reduce the pressure and pain i was in. After a 5 months my GP finally referred me to hospital to have flexible signoscopy (or something like that) to see if there was anything else causing the pain.

This procedure was so painful due to my anus feeling like it was an open wound , but i grit my teeth and bared the pain. The results of this test showed i was suffering with multiple anal fissures. I didn't really know much about this condition and was left feeling quite worried and troubled.

So while i waited to be seen by a specialist i just continued being in pain and enduring these painful symtoms. Being a bricklayer by trade i couldn't work properly and even driving to work was a challenge. The worst bit was not being able to talk to anyone about my condition due to feeling embarresed about a problem in my anus.

So now nearly a year later i am using a ointment called GTN and after getting used to violent migraines as a side affect am hoping with all my might it will help to heal me. I have never been so depressed in my life and can honestly say i feel like i am being slowly tortured by a throbbing dull ache in my backside. If there is anyone who has any advice or is dealing with the same pain and discomfort write back to me please and maybe you can help show me a much needed light at the end of the tunnel.

Try to get your GP to prescribe Anoheal (my GP and Pharmacist had never heard of it, but they did get it for me) . I gather its in developement stage but after 4 weeks use it works better than GNT .. no headaches and easier to apply. Its not chaep at about £150 per tube The intense irritation is i am led to believe caused by mucus or fecal matter irritating the open skin inside the rectum so keeping clean is very important. I have IBS . the diarhea sort , so getting the consistency of the stool is key to control. Imodium works to a degree as does codiene and small amounts of morphine if balanced just right.

In the 4 yaers i have had the condition it does not get easier. You just seem to have to get used to it. I have never yet found any diet that make any difference. Just be carful with chilli and how i love real beer ... but sometimes suffer the following day.

I know how you feel I have been having problems with Anal Fissure's or 6 years now and really do feel that the problem will never be resolved. I have used the GTN ointment several times and my condition does improve but after 2 or 3 months I'm always back to square one. I am quite healthy and my entire life revolves around my diet, making sure I'm eating enough fruit, veg and fibre and ensuring I drink enough water but it doesn't make any difference. On 13th August I was admitted to hospital for day surgery and was given Botox injections. I must admit the pain has died down but I have now developed thrombosed piles which are evenly very painful when going to the toilet, I am also getting a shaper pain in my anus in a different area from before which leads me to believe I have a new fissure in a different place. Of course I am at the mercy of the doctors and I have been told that for the time I must persevere with the pain.

IT'S ABOUT 2AM UK TIME AND AS USUAL MYSELF AND MY PARTNER ARE AWAKE WITH HIS ONGOING PAIN WITH ANAL FISSURES. WE UNDERSTAND THAT IT WEARS YOU DOWN AND APART FROM BEING SERIOUSLY PAINFUL IS HORRIBLY DEPRESSING. MY PARTNER IS 39 AND FOR YEARS SUFFERED FROM DIVERTICULITIS.. TO CUT A LONG STORY SHORT HE WENT INTO HOSPITAL IN 2005 AND AGAIN IN 2007 WHERE HE HAD A LARGE PART OF HIS BOWEL REMOVED...LOTS OF COMPLICATIONS LATER HE GOT VERY SICK, LOST ABOUT 4 STONE IN ABOUT 6 WEEKS AND NEARLY DIED.. GOT PERITONITIS AND MRSA.... AFTER 4 WEEKS IN HOSPITAL THEY OPERATED AGAIN BECAUSE ANOTHER PART OF HIS BOWEL HAD BEEN PUNCTURED.. HE CAME HOME AFTER ABOUT 6 WEEKS AFTER MY PERSISTENCE AT GETTING HIM OUT OF THAT HELL HOLE.. HE STARTED TO GET BETTER AT HOME BUT WAS HAVING TROUBLE GOING TO THE LOO... THE BOWEL SEEMED TO HEAL BUT HIS RECTUM WAS AGONY. AFTER GOING BACKWARDS AND FORWARDS O O THE GP, HOSPITALS ETC, I CONTACTED A PRIVATE CONSULTANT WHICH COST MONEY WE DIDN;T HAVE.... MY PARTNER IS A SELP EMPLOYED BUILDER AND COULDN'T WORK SO APART FROM THE WORRY OF ILLNESS, HE WAS ALSO WORRYING ABOUT MONEY AND THERE IS NO HELP OR SUPPORT. THE CONSULTANT FOUND THAT A PART OF HIS SIGMOID COLON HAD BEEN REMOVED AND ACID WAS BUILDING UP CAUSING LOTS OF BURNING.. HE HAS BEEN ONA DRUG CALLED QUESTRAN LITE FOR ALMOST A YEAR THAT BREAKS DOWN CHOLESTEROL IN YOUR DIGESTIVE SYSTEM.. THIS HELPED FOR A SHORT TIME THEN FURTHER INVESTGATION AND X RAYS SHOWED SEVERAL SEVERE ANAL FISSURES... IN THE PAST YEAR HE HAS TRIED THE GTN CREAM (NO LUCK AND HEADACHES AND THEN HAD TWO SESSIONS OF BOTOX INJECTIONS OVER A 3 MONTH PERIOD.. ALSO NO JOY... HE IS STILL IN AGONY AND IT SEEMS THE NEXT ROUTE IS ANAL SURGERY TO CUT THE SPHINCTER MUSCLE BUT THERE ARE RISKS AS USUAL... AFTER DOING LOTS OF RESEARCH OURSLEVES, WE DISCOVERED A HERBAL REMEDY CALLED SLIPPERY ELM...HE TAKES THIS A POWDER FORM IN A SMALL GLASS OF WATER MORNING AND NIGHT AND HE HAS HAD SOME RELIEF FROM PAIN.. APPARENTLY IT COATS YOUR DIGESTIVE TRACT AND SOMEHOW HELPS PASSING STOOLS... IT CANNOT BE A LONG TERM RESOLUTION AND WHO KNOWS IF IT WORKS LIKE A PLACEBO BUT IT REALLY HAS BEEN A HELP..... YOU CAN GET IT OVER THE INTERNET BUT DOCTORS KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT..... WILL KEEP YOU POSTED AND WISH YOU ALL THE BEST IN THE WORLD AS I KNOW FROM BEING WITH HIM, IT IS SO DEBILITING.....

I am nearly 30 years old and have been experiencing this problem for over 8 weeks now. I have tried several ointments but none have achieved the requires results. I am at my wits end because the pain is unbearable and there's nothing that my gp can do or provide to assist me. Just like you I find it difficult to perform my daily duties even though I eat a strict high fibre diet. It is a ticking time bomb and at times the pain becomes so overwhelming that I imagine death would be the only solution. If there's any remedy of some sort please share.
