Hi Corinne. Just a thought, possibly it is the build up of fluid in the eustachian tube. I know several people this happened to. It cleared up.

You are welcome Corinne. Just a thought though. If it is connected to eustacian tube - which is fairly likely - then there are a few things you might be able to do to help. One is to try an ear popper. The other is to look up the various different exercises you can do to unblock that tube. Just keep googling till you find a good one. They wont cost anything and cannot do any harm and hopefully will help.

It happens to a lot of people and it happened to me a while ago. The ear popper and exercises helped me but in the end I had to sort out my stomach as it was sending up stuff that blocked it. Good luck.

Mine has been going on since June 2014. I have lost 40% of my hearing in my right ear.

Tested, given a steroid injection in the ear drum, had deviated septum surgery, and nothing has helped.

I got a second opinion and I need reconstructive surgery in the middle of my nose to help it stay open. Nothing for sure yet. I hope you get help. It is so annoying.

I hear crickets and cracking noises day and night.

Hi Corinne, I too have had exactly the same experience you have had, although my deafness happened after a virus. My hearing tests showed severe deafness and a problem with the inner ear. The outer and middle ear were fine. I had blood tests and an MRI scan which I go for results from tomorrow. I have a really loud tinnitus noise in my ear and also what sounds like a dripping tap. If I drink lots of water it eases, alcohol and loud noises make it worse. I have resigned myself to the fact that my hearing may not return as is what the consultant had said, they have diagnosed it as sudden sensorial hearing loss. I would go for a hearing aid as I really struggle to hear when not in a quiet surrounding, socialising has become a nightmare

and even shopping. The consultants don't really know why this has happened and cannot give any time frames to my hearing returning, if at all. Hopefully your situation may improve, it can but at any time, just push for all the tests you can gave, hope goes ok

Hi Rachelle I wanted to respond to ur message because my experiences have been similar and I take comfort knowing other people have had similar problems. When u said about the robotic voices I couldn't believe it! This happened to me! I am deaf in my left ear already I was diagnosed about 6years ago with Eustachian tube dysfunction. That was fine I didn't receive a hearing aid or anything but I didn't feel I needed one I just wanted to know what happened. In recent years however any time I'm remotely stressed, have a cold/flu, haven't had enough sleep I have trouble with my right ear! I'll get muffled hearing, vertigo, dizziness etc which usually lasts a week max! 3weeks ago I had the flu and my hearing reduced significantly in the right ear a loud windy sound was all I could hear and peoples voices were extremely muffled. I got on a flight and the ear started ringing extremely loudly then everyones voices sounded robotic - I said at the time (in a frantic panic) 'everyone sounds like computers!!!' Even my own voice! It was horrible I was petrified. But I got off the plane and about 30minutes later things gradually sounded more normal but my hearing was very sharp. I thought it was just the flight but it happened again a few days ago! Once the ordeal is over I can hear again, it's a bit sharp but better than the fullness/reduced muffled hearing! but then once I go to bed I will wake up again with fullness in the ear and muffled hearing! I can't sort of see a process here? It's still ongoing I'm so fed up with it sad I can hear next to nothing everyday because I'm already deaf in the other ear! I went to the doctor who said there was no sign of infection and very little wax in my ears and that it was just a viral thing that would go away by itself?! Waiting on an appointment for the ENT to hopefully get more answers! Ear trouble just seems to be a mass of unknown, I've been on countless forums reading endlessly at night - it's torture! For anyone else who hears strange things I feel Ya hearing my heartbeat a lot, at once stage I was hearing what sounded like an ambulance siren! Hopefully you all got the answers you were looking for smile
