De Quervain's Tendinitis - Help!

Posted , 5 users are following.

It's been more than 2 years since I was diagnosed. It's only on my right wrist and unfortunately, I am right-handed. I've had at least 2 steroid injections every year for the past 2 years and now it's getting worse. I am constantly in pain, the inflammation never seem to stop unless I take a course of Prednisone for a week. Sometimes I take diclofenac or Arcosia with tramadol but it only last for a couple of hours. I have a demanding job in a busy office which requires lots of computer work all day long.

I have also tried TCM, acupuncture, omega 3, Vitamin B complex, Vitamin D3 (regularly), Magnesium but nothing seems to help.

My pain level is 7 to 8, I cannot function as in, unable to do simple tasks . I get very aggitated and cannot sleep at night.

I also have Raynauds syndrome on both hands.

Sorry to vlearn of your problem. I awoke one morning last May 2014 with pain and eventually disgnosed by GP as De Quervain's. So, wanting to rid the pain got my chiropractor to do intensive manipulation which he said might help. It did not. It made it more painful. Applied Anti -inflammatory gel which irritated the skin but nothing else. Then in bid to get it cleared up went private to specialist upper limb consultant. He thought I had arthritis and had an X ray taken which confirmed I had. So he gave me steroid injection. This did nothing for my pain. Went back after several weeks and now he listened properly to me and agrred it could be De Quervains. "Give it time and it might get better" he advised. So 2  months later (December by now) I went back and we agreed to surgery. 4 weeks later and after a 10 minute op under a local anasthetic job done. Bandage off after 2 days and stiches removed after 10. Now almost no pain , scar healing nicely with just some sore lumpyness. If nothing else has worked for you ask for the operation. I wish I had had it 6 months ago! It's so much better to be able to sleep now and do simple hand movements I couldn't .

Hi roy27! It would be super helpful if you gave us an update about the operation. I have read in many forums that for some people it comes back after a while and I assume that for many others it doesn't. Unfortunately, those who recover don't tend to come back to post so it would be great to hear feedback from you smile Cheers!

It's now six weeks since I had a release procedure and this is still early days. The wound has healed up so nicely it is hardly noticeable, The pain I had previously has gone completely, in fact it went almost immediately, however of course the wound was sore for a couple of weeks but is now not. I still have less strength in the hand than previously but that is improving gradually as I do exercises using gentle weights but slowly increasing. as I don't want to over do it. It was worth having the operation (even though I paid a lot for it). I will update you if you wish in a couple of months and I hope the intense pain I had does not return!

Hi there sorry I know this post was over a year ago. But just wondering how did you go after the surgery? Has the pain completely gone away and did you need further treatments after that? Did you take any supplements/vitamins to help recovery? I was diagnosed a year ago after I had my son and had 2 injections already. Pain hasn't completely gone away. Many thanks in advance.

Thanks for asking. Surgery went well and since then nothing more than the ocasional twinge especialy after intensive hand use or heavy lifting. Still sore sometimes but no painkillers needed and if I get a twinge I do the usual medical of grabing my thumb with the other hand and pushing it down for a few seconds and it feels better. (I don't know if this is recomended or not but it works for me!)  Any further queries i will try to help. Roy

Try collagen 1-2-3, gelatin for tendon. Bromalain and querticin for inflamation along with you other pain pills. These also help with uptake.

So pleased to learn this, so much better if you can avoid having to take too many drugs or go through surgery. Let us know how you get along.
