Since then i was doing back excersice as instructed by physiotherapy and was taking all the precaution from last one year . I didnt have much pain untill recently as i m getting to feel burning sensation on nerve below my waist in both the legs and bothering me a lot . Burning sensation is also accompanied with slight pain too ....

I have found that it is the muscles kind of need to be worked out In glute area..I have sciatica and bulging disc and when I walk a lot and do all kinds of stretches you need to look online for yoga stretches and even a chiropractor adjustment once in awhile epson salt soaking you just have to start stretching and working those muscles and getting your back muscles stronger cuz it is going away a little bit I did get Alot information in Utube and how yo stretch it..I got a shot for inflamation helped..not the epudural kind..that would help for a few days just search YouTube Internet and other so many different kinds of things that can help things.. I'm still trying but its getting better and my pain in my leg hurts so bad one night and I just kept kicking my leg and doing leg lifts leg lifts and it went away so it's definitely the muscles that need to be worked good luck

Thank you joanespo .... I even have had searched on you tube about back excercises , sleeping posture etc which helped me but not up to the mark ...... I have been doing excercise and streching every morning n evening for 30 mins all day from las almost one year ... I just wonder weather over strengthening of back muscle does contribute to the pain in any way... Very sooner i m going to have a massage course on my back .. Lets c if it works then ...!!!!! Good luck ... I give a update with my progress after mesaage course ...!!!.

yes I do hurt myself sometimes if I work out too much.. sitting on the tennis ball is great for the that muscle even if it hurts it stretches it out.. epson salt soak ..even keeping your spine adjusted once a month ..and the back brace thing helps when you're in the house.. Chiro said keep your back straight that's most important thing and massage for sure! Good luck

    Good evening,

You say you have pain on left buttock. Have you been in a accident?

In 2007 I was hit by a car, physical therapist told me damage to my bursa sac accord. Till this day I can't sleep on left side, I no longer wear jeans cause it is a irritating, burning, tingling, sensation wraps around left buttock down the outter side of leg. I can feel cold in left leg 2× more than right..

When you go to therapy, do you get any relief?

Physical therapy heightens my pain, fibromyalga also plays a part its more draining then anything.

What has your doc said about the sensation?

      hello Karen

Thanks for comment!!!  i havnt met any accident or engage in heavy lifting as such , it happen to me in a gradual way . I used to get pain occassionly before five year of my diagnosis but was not bothering much so i jus ignored . It was one day that i could not walk n sit properly on bed n then i got my MRI done and this diagnosis has been made.

I get relief when i do physical excercise like straching nad all

My doctor said that in 80 percentage of cases , a patient with disc hernistion get well with conservative treatment like excercise n therapy n all . I was so hope full that  i ll get mydself cured with physical excercise n all. It was going good for one year untill recently i m having this burning sensation down my leg  though it is quite bearable. I m taking every precaution but jus feraing that i might not get worse with time .

I hope all ll be fine ..

      good luck

      hi there,

oh I understand now. Is your physical therapist giving you easier exercises so that you're able to manage your pain?

Just keep positive and everything will be fine

Sounds familiar. Possible Disc Herniation with a sequesterd disc impinging on the S1 nerve.

In laymans language, disc has slipped, broken on the edge and is now sited on the sciatic nerve. Pressure on the nerve causes pain down the leg. Naproxen will ease the pain, but not the underlying problem. You may need a microdisectomey to take the broken part disc off the nerve. The surgeon may advise you to wait 3-4 months on painkillers or steriods as sometimes the disc fragment disintegrates enough to stop the pressure on the nerve. Dont leave it more than six months as it increases the risk of reoccuring.

I thought my leg problem was piriformis syndrome or hamstring tendonitis, but it turned out its was the disc fragment causing the pain. I'll be having the operation in the next 2 weeks or so.

Dr Coleman'swebsite is helpful on the subject.

      Hello Karen

Ha ha so am I !

It looks like 29th Jan, they could have had me in on my birthday next week, but no surpirses I declined.

My suggestion to you is get an MRI scan, if you havent had one, it can be about £400 or 6-8 months on NHS. I had 3 different diagnosis from GP, chiropractor and sports masseur: Ischial Bursitas, Piriformis Syndrome and hamstring tendonitis. So wasted a few hundred quid that I could have spent on the scan, although Benenden paid for it (phew). It only took two weeks for consultation, scan and diagnosis (£1,000). Thankfully, I am getting some early inheritance to pay for the operation (£6,700).

My advice to everyone get insured esp if you are heading towards middle age. I thought I was fit, but I have had a hernia, a ruptured achillies and now this.

Good luck Karen, sounds terrible,  Naproxen from GP might help,

Me again, my friend had Ischial Bursitas (fell over and had terrible problem sitting) and inadvertantly bought a magnet copper bracelet on hoilday from a street trader. He reckons it fixed it; something to do with increasing blood supply.

Aug 13 - Hurt my back bending down and twisting trimming the dog. Two days later I had a severe muscle spasm that put me to bed for 3-4 days. GP gave me Diazepam and Naproxen that solved the problem. A few months past and my lower back was starting to give me some pain. So went to Chiro which helped (Mar 14). She said I had a weak QL that needed strengthening. I then got pretty fit doing HIT workout. I had a month or so off then started gentle running (Aug 14). For some reason I started having hamstring and calf problems and couldnt sit down for longer than an hour. It progressively got worse and the whole of my back started hurting too. Some gentle core excercises helped the lower back and roller exercises on my upper back took away the spasm, but sitting was and still is a major problem, only cured by laying on my back with feet up against the wall for 5-10 mins. In short sports masseur thought it was Piriformis Syndrome (buttock muscle pressing on sciatic nerve), Chiro thought it was hamstring tendonitis, I then went to GP who thought it was Ischial Bursitis (swollen sac on your sitting bone). Following MRI - disc problem. Disc herniation is common and microdisectomy's is a small operation which can see an instant relief from nerve pain- Andy Murray had one and he's still 6th in the World ! However, Disc Fusion - op to join two lumber joints is more serious.

I'm no expert but just read alot googling. As I suggested to Karen get an MRI, your physio could be making it worse and draining your wallet. Physios and chiros are good when you have a proper diagnosis not before.

      Good luck

      Hi Anglo, Karen

I have tried Naprosyn in 2012, they had me on that for a yr. It didn't work for me.

When you are talking about insurance this is making me wonder, "all the time before I was declared disabled my doctors were not just telling me the truth about my symptoms. And now that I have disability but now they're just taking care of me better now,"

      lord I tell ya smh

      keep me informed

      hi Karen,

so the copper bracelet worked for him. My sister was telling me about the brace that they're advertising on TV that supposed to eliminate that pain in the buttocks region and throughout the leg so I I might look into that.

      Hooray, Hooray, Hooray, It's done!

Went in yesterday afternoon for my Microdiscectomy, so its recovery time now. I got up the folllowing morning and had a shuffle around. Feel ok, its a little uncomfortable getting up and out of bed, but I am so glad to be up and about. I was a bit giddy for a while, so I have asked for my medication to be downgraded. The phsyio came in the afternoon and took me down the corridor and up and down a few stairs and I was then given the all clear to go home. She said just do little walks, get up and back into bed properly, have short sit downs and pull the tummy in a couple of cms now and again to begin strengthening the core. Physio will then start in a fortnight. I cant remmber having a pre-med so I was anxious when they were putting me out. The morphine ending made up for it though.

My problem was sitting down and I havent done much of it yet but it seems ok after a few mins. I want to walk around a bit first before getting used to sitting. With anesthetic brings constipation despite the prune juice, so I will have to soon.

The surgeon gave me the fragment in a small bottle and it looks like crab meat. No regrets, I think with injections I was just putting it off so I am glad to get on with it.
