Could the physio have made my problem worse?

After 3 years of pain, doctors visits, medication and 3 rounds of physio treatment I have finally got a diagnosis of a bulging disc at c4 and c5 in my neck. The consultant could not believe that this hadn't been investigated before and that I had been suffering for 3 years! eachtime I went to my doctors they just pushed more medication and more physio. The last round of physio was excruciating and I had to stop going. The physio insisted on 'manipulating' the c4 and c5 in my neck each time I went and after each visit I would end up with severe headaches, dizzy spells, numbness and tingling down the affected arm. It affected me so much that I would end up with time off work after each session. In the end I just told her I didn't want to continue with the treatment and she eventually referred me to a musculoskeletal specialist. My question is this is it possible that she could have contributed to the bulging disc by doing the 'manipulation' on the exact spot? Could she have made the disc protrude more than if it had been left alone? The only treatment left to me now is to have surgery and I am currently on the waiting list. This in itself comes with enormous risks as they will be going through the front of my neck near my vocal chords etc. I am wondering whether to put a complaint in about this person and would welcome any advice.

The most common pain problem areas are the neck and back. Caused by a number of issues such as whiplash, sciatica, arthritis, frozen shoulder, slipped discs, sports injuries and many others.

For long-term relief from neck pain, visit a chiropractor. Chiropractors treat musculoskeletal conditions using manual therapies to treat ailments of the bones, muscles and joints. Chiropractors take a holistic approach to treatment, thus taking into consideration the complete lifestyle of a patient and may offer advice on exercise, diet and rehabilitation programmes to do in your own time.

Hi I had a fall in August 2013 which resulted in me having so much pain that I kept returning to A&E X-raysshowed no signs of fracture but when I was finally seen by a surgeon during one of my visits he ordered an Urgent MRI, This showed up 3 Prolapsed disc's @ C3-C4/C4-C5/C5-C-6 each of these are touching my spinalcord and @ C5-C6 there is compression of the right nerve.

Following the MRI the day after I collapsed and was admitted to Hospital where I spent 51 days with medication and received 28 injections in my neck and shoulders which relieved the acute pain when I moved my neck. I am now worried that the movement that this has given me could cause more damage to the Prolapsed discs.

I am waiting to be referred to a spinal unit to discuss surgery or how I go on as this is unbearable as it is,

I hope you get a real diagnosis of what they can do for you ASAP.

Well 5 Month's on from my fall and I am still n the same situation I was the day I left Hospital I have been having some acupuncture that doesn't seem to be having the desired affect as it knock's me off my feet for about four days each time, Having said that i am sure it works for some people.

The Hospital really doesn't want to know I'm in the hands of the Physio department but I'm in to much pain for them to do much with me.

I'm thinking the surgery is much better than what you live with. Do you call it living?  My sister had neck surgery after and a child with autism jumped on her while sitting on the floor . She lived with the pain fôr a year and couldn't work she finally gave in and she now lives pain free.  I know that's not always the case but if they can clearly see the bulging disk that's so much better than them saying well we think you have bulging disk surgery could help. So if they guessed right then you get better . If they got it wrong and you are the same or worse they start saying it's in your head instead of admitting they are wrong and try to continue to figure it out. Most will say it's in your head cause they don't like to admit you didn't need the surgery and you wasted all that money . Good luck

    Good Morning Trudy5.

My name is Derek, and I have read and noted your comments in relation to your awful experience.

My elderly Mother has had a lower back condition exacerbated by a Physiotherapist who manipulated my Mother's back, and now Mum has walked properly for nearly 2 years.

Do you know of any Solicitors who could support my Mother in a claim for compensation,, the family is now DEVASTATED as to what happened to my elderly Mum, and the Parliamentary Health Ombudsman did not uphold my complaint.

    Best Wishes

    Derek
