getting tests done quickly

Hello. I am new to this discussion. My husband has been diagnosed with AMD and last week had tests at eye clinic. Now they are almost sure it is wet-AMG so made another appointment for the dye=test, but not until 28th july and that is nearly 3 weeks wait. The Macular Degeneration Society haave been helpful but say that this wait is far too long, as there will then be another wait to get the injection treatment.  we tried to see if private treatment was possible but without success except that each injection would cost about £1500!  How urgent is it to get diagnosis?  Is a 3 week wait unreasonable?  deterioration of my husband's sight has been very rapid and we are very worried.  any ideas anyone, please?

    After several months of telling my ophthalmologist I had a blind spot in one eye, lines were wavy, etc., I was tested with a kind of scanner. He got excited, called a retinal specialist next to his office, sent me over there. He gave me another test with his scanner, then gave me a shot of Avastin. I was told I would have a shot every month for four months, but I did not have another shot for four months. Go figure. Later I was told I had scarring. The time between shots is lengthening and lengthening now.

    Frankly, I haven't seen any difference since I started taking the shots. I have a friend who has wet in both eyes, has been taking shots for some time now and swears she doesn't see wavy lines anymore. This makes no sense to me because a tech and finally the retinal specialist told me the dry mac continues, which means the distortion continues.

    Hello Penelope,

    My own experience here is that I had to wait approx. two months for a specialist App. after my optician requested it. For two years now I have been having regular injections in one eye for wet AMD and taking vitamin pills for dry AMD in the other. As I understand it, neither treatment is expected to cure AMD but uit does seem to have halted further progression. Of course, each patient is an individual with different details. In my case the injections for wet AMD have tried three different drugs. This treatment has been free on the NHS.

    Just wanted to share my good news for everyone who has wet macular degeneration. After skipping a shot of Avastin and going 18 weeks without a shot, my retinal specialist said my eye looked stable after the scan and said he would "check me" every two months now unless, of course, I had a bleed. He told me only 14% had this experience. So no more shots for the time being--maybe never. Thank God.
