is the diagnosis of neurodegeneration by a nuero psychiatrist always mean Alzheimers?

    No, ma'am.  There are many more types of dementia than Alzheimer's.  (Alzheimer's is the most common type of dementia.)

    There are also other medical conditions that can cause neurodegeneration.

      Thank you for your reply...but does that mean that nuero degeneration means dementia?

    Sorry, debra43286, for taking so long to get back to you.  That, I'm afraid, is because we PROBABLY live on different continents.

    Some of the conditions that can cause neurodegeneration include:

    Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other dementias

    Parkinson’s disease (PD) and PD-related disorders

    Prion disease

    Motor neurone diseases (MND)

    Huntington’s Disease (HD)

    Spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA)

    Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA)

    As you can see, if someone has neurodegeneration it doesn't always mean that they suffer with Alzheimer's disease.  I'm afraid you'll need to speak with the Neuro-psychiatrist to see what s/he believes MIGHT be going on with the sufferer.
