Reoccurring/Residual Ovarian Dermoid

Hi guys,

I'm 21 years of age and five months ago in July I went through key hole surgery to remove a 10cm ovarian dermoid in my left ovary. My recovery process after the surgery was not very smooth as my stomach after the surgery had constant bloating and my ovary kept hurting on and off.

It is now November and two weeks ago I had lower abdominal pain, I went to see my GP instead of my specialist as it is sometimes hard to get a appointment with him. My local GP referred me to get another ultrasound and they found a 1.1cm mass which they have told me looks to be suspicious for "residual dermoid"?? The doctor doing my ultrasound didn't explain much to me and said it would be best if i spoke to my specialist/GP in regards to this.

So I took the documentation to my surgeon that had originally removed the 10cm dermoid. I am basically abit upset now because when I was asking my specialist questions in regards to the "Residual dermoid" he didn't give a direct answer and he said 1 out 4-5 women will have re-occuring cysts/dermoids and that if I had needed to remove the whole entire mass, my left ovary would've needed to be removed completely. But the doctor who did my ultrasound said to me it looks like he might have left it there on purpose.. sad

Has anyone had surgery and a few months later had their dermoid grow back =(? I'm quite upset thinking about the possibility of maybe going through surgery again and if the dermoid was too grow etc. The good news however i got from my surgery was that my fertility tests came back normal. But now I'm just abit concerned about this residual dermoid mass that has been found.. If anyone has any similiar experiences i would love to hear your stories and it will be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Amy,

Thank you for your reply, I'm really sorry to hear about your situation I hope you're doing okay and I wish you all the best! When I spoke to my surgeon and advised him that I still have residual ovarian dermoid that was found in my left ovary, my surgeon stated that they don't want to put me through surgery again to remove something so small and risk damaging anymore ovary tissue.. So I was curious to see if anyone else had reoccuring dermoids that were discovered again right after surgery happened

HI! Same situation here. I had laparoscopic surgery before three months and before few days they found a new thing. Did you have another surgery or dermoid is still inside you?
