Arthritis in feet

I have arthritis in my feet. I have an appointment to see a specialist but not until July, I'm just taking panadine forte for pain relief at the moment but it does have side effects. I was wondering if there is better pain relief out there and what other people are taking. I'm getting very frustrated. Tramadol make me feel really sick so they are out. Thanks

    Hello jane. I was prescribed Nefopam (also known as Acupan) by my GP for arthritic pain. It isn't an opiate so presumably not addictive yet it can be taken safely with other painkillers. Apparently it's now given to patients following surgery and women in labour. I find it effective as I have osteoarthritis in several joints. It could be worth a try.

      Thanks Matron I will reseach that one. I'm very nervous now of taking tablets after the damage statins have done to me

      Oh I can understand your concerns after taking statins......but that's another discussion. Yes definitely research it. I'm a nurse and a midwife but hadn't thought of Nefopam for arthritis pain but it does help. Good luck.

      It is another discussion Matron and I've had many, I just wish I could find a Dr that would give better advise than don't believe what you read on the internet and don't believe what people tell you and would actually help me with the problems they have caused, but I don't think that is going to happen.

      My husband takes statins and I just don't like them. It is a contentious subject.

      I stopped about 2 years ago, I don't think it's worth it. I try to explain it to my mother but she doesn't understand beause she's of the generation of Dr's are gods sad and you certainly don't question them

    Call doctors office tell them how much pain you are in they should be able to work you in.  I had the same problem was able to get appt in one week.

      Thanks John but they don't care they'd say find another specialist. I was lucky to get July it was a cancellation appointment otherwise it would have been August, I've had my fill of drs and this one is highly recommended

      I have since found out that the specialist only practices one day a week the rest of her time is spent teaching and hospital practice, she should decide on one i think or not practice privately at all with those wait times.

    I have oa in both of my feet and ankles, toes.

    My rhymi got me steroid injections, which i have to say helped with my left foot by 80%, but my right feet was just the same, i also have inflamation in my feet and the ultrasound scan did not help to find where it was, but i have to have another one in May. Also i am going to see about soles or shoes fitting to see if that helps.

    This has been going on for almost 12 months, and still they cannot find the source of the inflammation, but they are doing their best, so i am plodding along.

      That's interesting Margaret I've heard such mixed stories about injections in the feet. I have lots of other things wrong spurs bunions a cyst with arthritis crystals in it and a few other things i can't remember. Thats why I want to see a rheumatologist . Because of the other problems I find it really hard to get shoes and they're all usually $300! orthodics not a lot of help. It's really getting me down and i'm sick of taking all these tablets

      Hi Jane i have had insoles this week put into my shoes, and the lady laced up my shoes so that the middle part is free from pressure, i kinow its early days yet, but i have just started to feel the difference after 5 days, so hopefull this might help the pressure for me i have mid foot oa, also my doctore has given me Tramodol which i am using sparingly, I hope you get some help, as pain really gets you down.       Thanks margaret I hope it keeps helping you. tramodol makes me sicker than panadine forte, only 3 weeks til my appointment so hopefully I'll get some better help smile

    I also saw an podiatrist jane and had insoles made for my footwear. I have found they help a great deal.

      I have orthodics too but minimal help because of difficulty of finding shoes wide enough for me

      Must admit I can only wear mine in my boots, trainers or walking boots so come the summer months I'll be in agony!!

      Matron, try sketcher shoes for the summer, my friend has them ans she says they do help with the insoles.
