I think i've ruined my urethra and subsequently my life

I had a second urethrotomy in November and looking back I realize it was completely u necessary. My first one was back in 2003 I had a pinpoint bulbar stricture that i'm certain I had since I was a teen I am 44 now. Over those 13 years from my first surgey to my second my symtoms never really went away. I had urgency, frequency, and near incontinence at times, but I was always able to empty my bladder. I went back for cystoscopies every now and then to make sure the stricture wasn't coming back. The doctor was always able to pass the scope into my bladder with little resistance, but in my desperation for relief the last time I had a cystoscopy in October of last year I asked the doctor to do another urethrotomy just to widen the area out again and maybe take some pressure off my bladder. He reluctantly agreed and we went ahead with it in November. Imediatlly after surgery I new things were not right. I had imence pain at the distal end of my penis and I new I had been injured there now also. I went home with a cathater for six days. The last day or so I began to feel very irritated in the urethra and wondered if I had gotten an infection. I went in the doctors office got the cath removed and explained my concerns with the nurse about feeling as though I had an infection and that the distal end of my penis had been injured. The nurse sent the doc in and he seemed to not be concerned as if this was normal or something. In the six + months following i've never felt right again. I've had burning, itching, and pain throughout my entire urethra. Back in April went for a urethrogram with a different urologist wich according to him only showed the 2&1/2 cm narrowing where i'd had surgey. I think I went for the x-ray too soon as now I feel as though my entire penile urethra is closing up, it feels very tight and my stream is slowing down. I think inflamation has destroyed my penile urethra now also. And if that is the case am I looking at a two stage urethroplasy? So depressed should of left well enough alone. I hate myself and I have nobody to talk to about this my family don't care and they seem to be on anoyed with me when I talk about it. Oh, and to top it off I had to have a back surgery for a severe herniated disc that was causing me terrible sciatica and wouldn't you know it my feeling of near incontinence has faded.

Hello Nite..  I think you should have lift it alone you may have more scare tissue.  I have a stricture in the same area.  Mine is 16cm I think that what they call it.  I make sure that they don't put anything bigger then a 14fr catheter in  I don't want them to mess anything up.  Don't trust some of the nurses.   Just try to relax if you can and watch how much you drink.  If you like to vent I'm here for you.  Ken

Wow, 16 cm is very long and I think mine is probably the same by now. How do you deal with it I can actually feel like there is something in there like the entire length if my urethra and it drives me insane even when I'm not urinating. Sometimes I have to put an ice pack down there to fall asleep. Before my 2nd urethrotomy I had no sensation at all in there.

Hi ken, hope you had a good trip. I was wondering why do you need a cath are you not able to empty your bladder?

Good evening.  Yes had a good trip.  I dont need a catheter daily.  I am fine.  it when I go into the hospital.  No one will do anything to me unless they have my permission.  I can only take a 14 fr coude catheter. Which is approved by my urologist.  Got the stricture from kindey stone surgery.  A few years ago I had sepsis and they forced a catheter in me without my permission and not saying a word.  After they tryed 2 times I was bleeding and another nurse came in and cleane me up.  I don't want anything bigger put in me when I am in the hospital.  I carry my papers from my urologist.  In a few months I wil be having a ablation for A-Fib and I will make sure that I show them the papers.  Sorry for the confusion..Ken

How long did it take from the time they injured you with the cath until you actually formed a stricture? I know that I was injured again during my last urethrotomy in November, but my urethrogram didn't show a stricture yet back in April. I'm almost certain it's matured enough by now to show up on x-ray, but I don't exactly enjoy having those procedures.

The hospital should be held responsible for the damage they do to the urethra during surgery and then they would be more carefull. I can feel my anterior urethra getting tighter every day due to the inflamation caused by my doctor when he was working on my bulbar stricture. He referred me to a specialist 2-1/2 hours away and washed his hands to me. Now i'm facing open surgery on my penis as well as my bulbar urethra at my own cost. My life has become one big painfull doctors appointment and I blame myself as well for not doing my homework on who I allowed to perform surgery on me.

I'm finding it hard to go on everyday with this condition.

I am very sorry for the problems  you are going through.  I know my doctor told me that If I have a problem I can try urethra dilation That may be something you like to look into.  My stricture is in the bulbar to.  I did talk to the hospital.  It was my word against the 2 nurses.  Thats why no one does aything to me without my permission.  If you would like to chat send me a private message.  I may not answer wed having a heart catherzation done will be over night  having stents put in   I know it's hard but try to relax Don't rush into anything   Ken

Nite, I had my Buccal graft urethroplasty done by a specialist who performs 100 urethroplastys annually. More than anyone in the country. It was a complex situation as well but we got it done with the Graft and three weeks with a catheter. Not sure where your located or how your doing but I always respond on here .
