Tinnitus, loss of appetite, nausea and stiff neck

About four weeks ago I discovered I had ringing in my right ear (tinnitus). I went to my local GP and she said that the eardrum was neither blocked nor perforated. Regardless, she booked me an appointment to visit the hospital to see an ears, nose and throat specialist (1st August). Four days ago I woke with a terrible stiff neck -- could not move my head fully to the right.  I applied some heat to it the last few days and it has abated considerably; however, eating my dinner last evening I became nauseous with every bite. Today has changed little either, though my neck -- despite a little tension -- does feel slightly better. I am confused why I would have these additional symptoms to tinnitus, or whether they are related at all. I admit, I am anxious, even worried that it may be something far more sinister. Any help on this matter and I'd be most appreciative.

    The right ear indeed needs to be checked by ENT.  The nauseous feeling with eating my be due to an assymetry (difference in function) between the two ears.  The stiff neck may be coincidental.

      Could be.  I have vertigo.  After a stroke last year that affected by left eye it got a lot worse.  I am asthmatic and have disfunctional eustacian tubes. I believe you would benefit a lot from having an MRI and get down to the root of the problem.

      When I see the ENT in August I've been thinking of suggesting an MRI, but I'm not sure they'd agree just because I asked; I've never been seriously ill before so I'm uncertain as of the process. Out of interest: did you also have a loss of appetite and a feeling of nausea? I do not feel dizzy, but I feel those symptoms the most. Maybe its just anxiety for fearing the worst, I can't be certain.

    It may be related to some middle ear problem.... See an ENT , get an audiogram. This will help. And of course MRI ...

      Unfortunately, my ENT is not until the 1st of August (which seems so far away) considering these new -- whether related or not -- symptoms have developed. It may be coincidental, but this pain in my neck, which I've had since wednesday -- though it has abated -- is disconcerting. Perhaps is is unrelated but one can't help but speculate. I did have a headache last night which only exacerbates the worry. Regardless, thank you for your reply.

    I have had similar symptoms, Paul, and went to an upper cervical chiropractor, Dr. Burcan, who made critical adjustments in the vertebrae of the neck, as needed.  So far, it has seemed to have helped.  Just starting with this yet though.  Amazing the way the neck vertebrae are so closely connected to the ear, the eustachian tube, etc.  I'd strongly suggest checking it out.

    The lack of appetite and nausea can be affected by this as well.
