dermatomyositis

I have wondered for the last four or five months what is wrong with me. I have rash on back and chest. My eyelids swell and get red and hurt and I am exhausted a great deal of the time. Stress seems to make symptoms worse. I was doing some research and found this illness. I am going to dermatologist next week for skin biopsy. My recent CRP was 20 which is pretty high. I know most people have muscle weakness and rash but does anyone else have problems with their eyes swelling and hurting? Thanks smile

    Hi Lori,

My eye lids turned red a few years back.  It depends on how I'm doing that day but generally the more tired I am feeling or the deeper I go into a flare, the more senstive my skin is to touch etc. I've seen my dermatologist a few times over the last few years, however the topical ointment doesn't really work that well.  However, I know that is different for everyone.   I have a rash on my face and arms.  My aunt used to have a rash on her face but eventually it went away.  That's what i'm hoping for too.  I hope your derm helps you out. - Claudia

hi, sounds again very similar to Lupus to me. The red sore eyes are something I have had with Behcet's (similar to Lupus). It is very often caused by inflammation of the eyelids.....blepharitis

This might sound kind of crazy but if you google it you will see that it's a recognised treatment....get hot water and a cotton pad, put some Johnson's baby shampoo on it and rub on your closed eyes rubbing over the eyelids. It really is great. Some people use bicarbonate of soda. I have never tried that but hear it is good too. The baby shampoo has always worked for me.

I get the chest rash too and often on my face. It kind of flushes and reacts badly to sun. My specialist told me that Lupus is very responsive to stress as in makes it flare badly. Hope this helps some of you.
