Enlarged lymph nodes?

Posted , 8 users are following.

So I have had these enlarged lymph nodes for almost 2 months now being as big as 3.53cm on both sides I am 20 yrs old and I don't know why ? I have been to the doctors had 2 ultrasounds and 2 blood tests and have visited a specialist last week and am to see him again in 2 days he sent me for a CT scan and another blood test and so far all blood tests have come back fine. I don't know what it could be ? I have had a cholestiatoma when I was 8 and also got epilepsy that same year but not sure if it's related ? My speacilist also recommend that a biopsy may be needed has anyone had one before ?

I don't have anxiety or anything like that but I am so curious and eager to find out what's wrong with me any ideas or any suggestions would be appreciated ??

Hi Amy! I am actually going through the same thing right now - and have been since February of this year! I am 27 y/o female and I've had weird symptoms; muscle pain, collar bone pain, aches, etc but no one has been able to figure out what is going on!

I have had six blood tests, one of which was very extensive and everything came back normal other than being slightly iron deficient/anemic.

I've had 4 ultrasounds - all came back normal, X-rays, all normal, CT Scan with contrast which showed a few enlarged lymph nodes, all under 2cm, and now I'm scheduled for a fine needle aspiration biopsy on the 23rd of this month.

My lymph nodes in my neck, armpits, as well as my groin area have been bothersome. Just achey feeling, and just "off". I've never been a sickly person, so it's been weird feeling so strange for so long with no answers.

Glad I'm not the only one ! I have had a sore throat every now and again and some pain in my neck where the nodes are enlarged but only sometimes. And it happened really suddenly sort of out of no where when it started almost 2 months ago which i found odd also and the morning after it happened I had this weird pain in my tail bone and some red marks at the bottom of my back also which went away after that day but is still a little painful every now and again also it's so frustrating not knowing what's happening!!

And having to wait so long !!

Hey so just an update after all that has happened in the last 6 months the doctors believe everything that has happened was because of the anti seizure medication I was taking I have been taking it for 10 years now and they think that it's not working for me anymore so I am now changing to another drug called lamictal which I hope works because I can't stand the fact that I can't drive now till almost February next year. I am still suffering from a lot of other side effects and still have so many questions that need answering but I just never thought to look at the side effects of the medication I was taking

      Hi Heather!

Have you found out any additional information? My symptoms are exactly as you describe. Any help/advise is greatly appreciated!

Both sides of where? Are you talking about just under each jaw bone below the ears? As they are Salivary glands (Right & Left Submandibular glands) and not lymph nodes.

Just thought I'd check because you didn't say where.

Sorry both sides of my neck and one gland right under my jaw bone on the right

How are you both getting on now? I'm having swollen lymph node problems and have been for the past nearly 5 months. I have 1 on the side of my neck and 1 behind my ear but I swear I've found another deep behind my jaw near my ear lastnight which has panicked me. Saw the haematologist last Thursday and he wasn't concerned but wants me to go for a scan to ease my mind. I've had random pains in neck and collarbone, that come then go..sometimes don't have them for ages then get them again. I feel like my throat has been playing up also on and off the past few months. I now have extreme health anxiety from all of this.

Hey so after a long 6 months they first thought I had cancer then they thought I had MS as I got so weak I couldn't walk and was in hospital for almost a week i found out I was having a severe reaction to my anti seizure medication I was taking and had been taking for 10 years now so I am currently swapping over to a drug called lamictal and fingers crossed it works because I already have to wait 3 months before I can drive again but if you are taking any medication at all definitely check the side effects because all of what happened to me was on that list even all the swollen glands and numbness and tingling I had

    Hi there,

I seem to going through something similar. For the last 6 weeks or so I've had a pain / ache in my neck, near my collarbone and just under the jawline - all on the left side. My neck feels really swollen and my lymph nodes are enlarged.

I had really bad head aches at the start but thankfully they have stopped but I keep getting pains in my neck, chest, shoulder and back.

Dr initially said it was possibly a trapped nerve, then possibly glandular fever. I'm now going in for a full blood test next week and waiting for an ultra sound appointment then possibly a biopsy having to be taken.

I'm 36 y/o and type 2 diabetic and admit that I'm freaking out a bit, worrying that it's something serious. I've been generally unwell for the past couple of years, which I put down to the diabetes.

Just hoping my bloods come back clear now.

Bless you, fingers crossed for you too! Hope the change of medication helps!

Here's me whinging and you've been through the mill with it so far it seems! I am a worrier though, wish I wasn't but I can't help it.

My advice to other people would be to not stress about it until something is properly diagnosed but I don't follow my own advice sadly. 🙄

Gotta wait it out and see what comes of the blood test / ultra sound now. Just hate all the waiting!

Merry Christmas to you and good health to you too. 🌲 😀

haha i hear ya i never listen to my own advice either and yes the waiting i swear was the worst part!

hope it all works out for you anyway smile

So, I got my ultra-sound appointment through today - it's on the 13th of December (day after my sons 4th bday ??) and my blood test is a week today.

There's so many different things that could be the cause of the pain I'm suffering with yet I'm still googling the symptoms and the possible diagnosis! 😡

So my blood test came back negative for everything it was checked for including glandular fever so I was hoping the Ultra Sound would shed some light.

That was this afternoon and they have found an enlarged lymph node (6mm x 13mm) in the left side of my neck. The guy who did it came across as so disinterested in what I was asking him (I noticed he made a note about my thyroid too) but all he kept saying is that 'your doctor will answer any questions'.

I'll be ringing them in the morning as all the waiting around and not knowing is so frustrating and worrying.

I really do hope all you guys going through similar things on here are all doing ok.

Hey , how did you end up going with the results ?

      Hey Amy,

Initially it took over a week for my doctor to get the results of the ultra sound (😡wink and he confirmed it was an enlarged lymph node and a swollen thyroid. He said it could be a viral infection thing or a nasty flu bug and gave me Naproxen then booked me in for another blood test (which is tomorrow). He said I should get as much rest as possible too but I work in retail and my job is quite active with a lot of lifting so it's not been pleasant over xmas.

Im still having all sorts of aches and pains and after 3 months I'd hoped to be on the mend now but I'm still none the wiser as to what it is.

How's things with you? Hoping you're getting on ok with your new medication and are on track to be able to drive again soon.

Hey thanks for your quick reply im glad your getting a little better!

Im getting there slowly i have my neurologist appointment next friday so i hope i might be able to drive again! fingers crossed nothing happens between now and then.

i still am not 100% though i have tonsilitis now and am now on the 3rd lot of antibiotics and think i might of built a resistance up to it so i have no idea whats gonna happen if this lot doesnt work neutral

Bless you. Hope things turn around for you soon and nothing happens before next Friday and hope the appointment goes well for you too.

Sorry to hear about the tonsillitis and the resistance to the anti biotics - I'm sure the drs will have other options if that's the case.

Easier said than done, but keep your chin up and try not to worry too much. 😊

No worries at all, no need to thank me.

We both agreed earlier in the thread that it's easier to tell other people to try not to worry than to not worry ourselves - let's start listening to our own advice. 😁
