Started taking pills for IBS. Bloating, constipation, etc

I went to the doctor 3 days ago. He told me I might have Ibs and gave me a single probiotic supplement pill. A colpermin pill before launch and Nortriptyline (it says Nortriptyline 25 so I assume 25 is the dose) before bed.

I gained 1.4~KG in the first 2 days and my stomach has gotten a lot bigger! Now today I feel a lot bloated (Didn't have much problem with bloating) and I had increased constipation when I started taking them but now I took around 1.5H in the bathroom although it was normal just very long! And I'm really bloated. It was never painful but I felt pain in my lower abdomen at school. Is this because of the pills? Will they be gone after I use them for a while? Maybe I don't have IBS!

My main problem right now is bloating!

Maybe the probiotics doesn't suit you. Most are dairy based which can aggregate ibs.

What were your symptoms before you started the pills?

I would sometimes have dirhhea and sometimes has constipation all with a bad feeling in my stomache that's hard to explain! Also I had this feeling that I'm not finished in the bathroom but nothing would happen. My main problem was either being late to school because I had to stay in the bathroom or having sudden cramps sometimes and having to go back home in a hurry! Although on the last days before going to the doctor it was mostly constipation!

And sorry if I sound a bit gross I just want to be specific

I would leave off the probiotics. Try buscopan for the cramps

hi kealthas, first thing u need to do is talk  to another doctor and get second opinion, it doesnt look like your being treated for ibs, your probiotiic is just good bacteria that does what it does in guts its natural so shouldnt cause bloating or constipation   and nortryptyline is an anti depressant did doctor say you were depresed or anxious, also none of those pills should cause pain unless theyre causing bad constipation and trapped wind that could be the pain. also although ibs is thrown around as a catch all for what they dont know ic causing isues to get a diagnosis of ibs is extremely hard and long proces with a multitude of tests scans and more scans. its doctors using it liberaly that causes the problems. ive been medicaly retired due to my extreme ibs, im 49 and on a pension with no prospectof ever being allowed to work again, im on like 25 tablets a day and a prescription on complan build up drinks and fortijuice protien drinks, and any food at all triggers pain immediately that leads to nausea, my workks independant health board gave 4 reports to put me on medical retirement or at least move me to a less stresfull job, but because my manager doesnt believe ibs is an actual ill ness she just ket ordering me back to work i was off sick for three years before she was overriden by another manager, at the last meeting i was at withher i was in support group esa, and getting enhanced rates care and mobility PIP, and she still wouldnt accept i was ill. even the councils have these peole i got investigated for benefit fraud after taking in my change circumstances form with pension stuff. guy looked at my p60 and said that a reaklly high wage for someonee whos supposed to have been ill for  year or more, i explained it was a lump sum from my pension as being medically retired he laughed said you seriosly think im going to believe that your rtired at your age your going to be investigaated for benefit fraud, which i was totally cleared of but from the 78 pension i geta week the take 73 as its seen as income so get a second opinion and ask why your being given antideppressants if you didnt know what they were and dont let them label yo with ibs so early as theyll stop looking for what real cause i, iv been klucky in doctors an specialists ive had as they put in report now that although diagnosis is ibs related ill ness theyre still convinced

and continue to test for cancer

Well I do know I am depressed and anxious but I only told the doctor about anxiety.

And my problem used to be mostly having to go to the bathroom alot after eating anything. Even the smallest thing . But the last 3 days I had constipation (before going to the doctor) and I always felt like I'm not finished in the bathroom but no matter how much I stay nothing would happen. And I assume the pain was constipation and gas as it was only one time.

I also felt and today I do feel s pressure on my lower abdomen

I should add that the doctor said that I need to take these for 3weeks and go back again to see if my issue is resolved. He didn't say it literally is. He just said It's likely ibs! And said if it didn't resolve in 3 weeks I should do a test

The anti depressants getting used to help reduce anxiety, that's a big trigger. For lots of people have look on leaflet to se what types side effects they have, I was on anti psyche from anxiety for years but can't take ant that work for me now because constipation is side effect of so many qajd at depressants won't kick I for 3-4 weeks and sometimes make your mood worse first.whem mine triggers an chocolate milk can trigger mine I get like bubbling of air bottom left of my side like something producing extra air, if I'm constipated it's nowhere to go so pain just gets so bad I lay down an pass out, I find diazepam help relax stomach bowel area, but not many GPS will prescribe them as they're highly addictive u ens up being constipated more often just ask gp for laxatives or a drink called macrogol. I only know this cause I'm on most of them every day now and tried all other crap first. I've had cameras where they weren't designed to go lol said I'm not having all that again this round just jump straight to cat scan n mri everyone's different but I can manage dairy products in small amounts oh and your gp saying they'll test for its. They can't u can't see what causes it's u only see reaction, so what he means I study do lots of test ruling out everything it could be. Then they can class it as it's, hope it eases of for u

yeah ive seen a lot of people on here be put on an anti depressant, dont know the answer to that one though do we get anxious and worried because of ibs or does getting anxious or wound up trigger the ibs

Anti depressants work on the nerves of the gut too to calm everything down. This helps relive pain and spasms.

Certain types of antidepressant are very good for nerve pain and are used in many different illnesses for this.
