Yvonne, I always eat boiled eggs and try to do so if not every morning, every other morning.  For some reason they seem to check my diarrhea.  I am post op for almost 19 weeks but still have bouts with diarrhea.   I never knew what hurt me before the surgery as I didn't have time to do trial and error.  Mine was urgent surgery for a fisutla between my bladder and colon caused by an infected pocket.  Wish I knew more to help you.  I would stay on liquids to rest your bowel if the diarrhea is constant.  If it gives you breaks I would try the eggs.  I hate the diarrhea and the pain it causes by itself not to mention the pain of the bum.  Hope it gets better soon.

Thanks for the reply,What kind of surgery did you have? Its all very scary especially when it's out of your control as to what's setting the flares off,I thought I knew. Its hard to know what to eat even when they say liquid, that's why I thought of the Complan .Hope you are better soon.

I had a colonectomy, 10.5" of my sigmoid colon removed.  The resection opened up after 6 days and I had to have emergency surgery and came out with an ileostomy.  Had that taken down after 8 weeks and two weeks later hospitalized for a bowel blockage (minor) that passed in 5 days.  Only liquid diet until it passed.  Went home and about a week later another blockage from adhesions from taking the ileostomy down.  They grew around my colon and closed it off completely.  Another emergency surgery to relieve that and lost my eliosecal valve in the process.  That loss is why I have the diarrhea so much now.  I am 19 weeks out and feel really good.  The diarrhea is just a minor inconvience.  I watch what I eat but can't really tell what makes it come on.  Liquid diet is usually clear liquids.  Jello, broth, popcicles, etc.  I understand your feeling of out of control all to well.  Don't know what Complan is.  Chin up Yvonne.

Hi I'm lucky!! as I'm never hungry during flare ups and I have one at the moment.

I had surgery in March on left side which was very successful but unfortunately I now have right side flare ups at least every 6 to 8 weeks.

really fed up as it's been a 13 year struggle.

    Hugs to all suffers xx

Hi there, can anything be done for right sided flares ?

What is causing the right side flares?  Is it still diverticulitis?  I was hoping it was all over for me.  Please don't tell me it could happen again.

It's diverticulitis I'm sorry to say and rare to get it right side but it happens!!

I was in Germany for a break and ended up in A&E

The German specialist said in my case it was due to weak tissue and there's nothing I can do about it!!

No difference in the the way right side is treated but I do find symptoms less dramatic!! I had a lot of contraction /cramps left side.

Right side is more deep pain which also carries around to my back .

I get right side pain with flares as often as left side pain despite the colonoscopy only showing pouches in the sigmoid colon. Have you had a hysterectomy? Fistula is rare in women with intact wombs.

I have had a hysterectomy.  I'm actually an it (my own personal joke about that surgery).  He seemed rather shocked that it happened but seemed very comfortable with it.  I did have to have a biopsy done on the area in my bladder before the surgery to confirm that it wasn't cancer before they did the colonectomy.  I had to wear a catheter for two weeks after the surgery to make sure my bladder healed from the repair surgery on it before too much pressure was put on it.

Hi to everyone,i saw the practice nurse at my GPs ,she felt at my tummy and said i didnt have a full blown flare thank goodness and told me to start right back on my normal diet with plenty of fiber which i did,she was very good and knowledgable about the disease and i had full confidence in her,i did what she said, which included porridge for breakfast with prunes, boiled egg for lunch with wholemeal toast and fish with new potaoes with peas and carrots for tea,i do still have little pains but my bowels are back to normal and the sickness has gone, she did say that every now and again we will all have what she called blow out days where the bowel clears itself out and will have a little pain from inflamation bcause of it,i now feel much better. Thanks to everyone concerned,Im a very happy bunny.

I have had a hysterectomy too. When I had my colonoscopy my gastroenterologist said I had the worst adhesions from the surgery that she had seen . She said that they will account for some of my pain as they pull on the intestines. I find it difficult to tell sometimes if I am actually having a flare or if the pain is just my adhesions pulling.
