Can someone tell me why the pain of arthritis (and PMR) is worse in the night BUT lying down relieves the pain greatly during the day.?!!!

Hi Constance i know exactly how you feel, i asked my doctor the same question and he said its something to do with at night all your muscles relax as the body is tired so it goes heavier than normal wether this is true or not who knows but that is one theory i have been given

I don't know why exactly - I wake up with knee pain in the night.  Now I slab on arthritis cream on the joints and put a pillow between my legs before bed.  It somehow cushions it and I haven't woken up recently

You should see me when I go to bed.  I put tubular bandages on my knees and ankles, also on my wrists.  I then put cotton socks on.  Finally I wrap the duvet cover round me.  My husband says it takes me longer to get into bed than it takes me to dress in the morning!   Grrrr!
