    Hello Monique-

I have FS and I can tell you, its' not something that is stiff at times- but its a locked state hence the continual pain.

You might as your doctor if you can see a physical therapist to keep your range of motion(ROM).  Stretching is also a good tool.

    Hi

I was diagnosed with bursitis in both shoulders but my left is now frozen. You know by pain differences and range of movement as both get a lot worse. Hope this helps

I have both and FS the pain does not stop in the freezing stage, bursitis is painful on movement and you have more movement with bursitis

    Hi monique.

My arm was also "locked" in certain directions.

Moving it upwards from the side I got to parallel to the ground.

I couldn't move it behind my back. Got as far as my hip.

I could move it all the way up going forward.

But always in constant pain. Sometimes mild and sometimes stronger. Very hard to sleep in a comfortable position.

I went to physio for a while and it didn't help. Probably got a bit worse.

I then had an x-ray and MRI which showed I had some bursitis and possibly FS.

Went along to an orthopedic surgeon who immediately diagnosed FS and sent me to a sports therapist to possibly needle me up with cortisone or hydrodilatation.

I decided to investigate alternatives before going for any intrusive procedure.

I came across a technique called Trigenics from this very forum which appeared to have success and located a chiropractor who did it in my home town Sydney.

He had a lot of experience with frozen shoulders. After examination he didn't believe I had FS but a really bad impingement coupled with bursitis. Not to say that FS was possible down the track (fingers crossed I don't).

The trigenics technique is different after seeing many other physios, chiros and osteos over many years for other back problems.

After one session my ROM was marginally better and after 4 sessions I can lift my arm about 80% and reach behind my back to the lower spine.

I still have a while to go and am in constant mild pain and get the occasional zinger with a fast wrong movement. Who knows where I would have been had I gone straight to the sports therapist for those unnecessary needles.

I think it is difficult for doctors and surgeons to truly diagnose a FS based just on x-rays and MRI's. I was lucky enough to find someone who has had the experience of dealing with FS who diagnosed me correctly.

I wish you all the best with your problem and hope that you don't have FS.

After reading many blogs I feel so sorry for those who have FS and wish you all a speedy recovery.

Bursitis is inflammation causing soreness.  If you have frozen shoulder the first stage is extremely painful and called the freezing stage. It's excrutiating to try to move it. Eventually it becomes frozen which feels as though the joint is cemented. It is not as bad as the 1st stage, but like anything that is frozen in place there is no moving it without breaking something. When the doctors do a manipulation that's what they are doing. They are breaking the stuff in there that is making the joint immovable. I'm sure you can just google it and get the info more clearly that my desciption.

You can have a sore shoulder (bursitis) which eventually becomes a frozed shoulder. My x-rays showed nothing. I was told it was done to rule out anything else.

Your description doesn't sound like frozen shoulder to me.

Just be careful and mindful of the symptoms of frozen shoulder. I hope it doesn't happen to Yasmine it really is a debilitating condition. 3 steroid shots have done nothing, surgeon wants me to start physio but has already told me he will operate in 6 weeks as it's stuck solid, my movement is virtually nil. As I said previously, I started off with bursitis and only went to gp when it started to escalate. I was told by 3 hospital doctors I had a proximinal humerus fracture as that's what an MRI told them, thank goodness I seen a surgeon who knew what this was. Take care and keep an eye on it, if it starts to hurt scale 10 all the time not just when you move it, it's frozen or not to confuse things, it's freezing xx

wall, if 3 doctors said you had a fracture I assume they were looking at an x-ray? Could it be possible you did and that injury caused it to freeze? As I've posted mine started when I leaned on my elbow which caused a pain in my shoulder the likes I have never felt before. When it started to freeze I reported this, but both orthopedists ignored it; said that's not how it starts(?) Doctors can reallly have tunnel vision unfortunately. I have found my GP's to be more open minded than specialists.
