Tonsillitis

Went to the doctor on Monday morning and got Keral 25mg granules for an oral solution and a penicillin antibiotic and I'm taking paracetomol in between these. But I'm still in a lot of pain. Just sitting here my throat is on fire. Swallowing anything from water to ice cream to food is like I'm trying to swallow shards of glass and last night I started coughing, now I'm getting up bits of mucous with my saliva (sorry if tmi). I know I've only been on antibiotics a day and a half but I am not getting any relief at all !! Is there anything I could be doing to help ease the pain and swelling??

I am on my 3rd lot of antibiotics- after 14 weeks of chronic lingual tonsillitis.

The Penicillin has worked at 10 days, to eleviate the pain. But it still feels odd. Is still swollen and red.

I have another course if I want

Re pain. I am on tramadol and it never covered the pain.

Gargle water with salt in in 4 or more times a days. Drink lots of water.

I used neurofen as well as tramadol 200mg SR. But its not over yet. Australia

My mum however (we both had same illness) showed no signs of injury to throat. Had many trests.

Her throat pain and loss of voice could be related to Copd. Asthma medication. Her throat and voice were normal after 16 weeks.

I have had bouts of CLT before that last 14 weeks. Sinus pain and rhinitis.

Am considering removal of Lingual Tonsils. Appt Oct 5th. Have been told allergies may play a part.

I am really hoping it does not go on for so long !! 😖 I hope you get better though it sounds awful !!!... I tried salt and water before I found out I had tonsillitis but it seemed to burn my throat a bit ... Is this because it's fighting the infection or should I not do it ??

i cant believe how painful it is.  but teh penicillan has taken the pain down.

so that is good .. but 14 weeks in pain. i dont think people get it, its more than a sore throat .. my husband had a sore throat for 4 days and could not cope.

i think i had amoxycillan the first time. wrong antibiotic.  I have another 10 days here to take. not sue if i should now try and let my body get well by itsself of not.

but it feels like when i had my tonsils out, i remember that pain 55  years ago.. i remember the pain and yes i want ice cream. diet jelly would be less fattening.

and i am lactose intolerant. i just take the lactese after.. and i want green ice cream .  The pain from post surgery only lasts a few days. and it is gone.

not sure why it goes on and on.

there is a possibility it crosses over to another illness.

my GP did mention a few days on Prednisilone to reduce swelling and a different thought it to stop the immune system from being over active. ( cos it can reduce immune system ).

i find eating.. drinking soothes my throat. but dont want to have to lose weight after this..  mucous up sounds good for you, i did not have that. ( mum does ) maybe you had brochitis. Are you a smoker ?

i found Ibroprufen better than panadol. for sore throat the specialist suggested it.

The pain is ridiculous. I had a bit of relief this afternoon (that being said I still can't eat food or drink water) but I have found that jelly does go down easily enough and plain biscuits dipper in tea aren't too bad !! Water feels like it's burning me I don't know why and at the minute I'm terrified to move onto other food because of the pain! ... Yes I don't smoke a lot about 4-5 a day but not all the time and usually not weekends either !! ... I can't take a lot of other medication because of what I'm on, the pharmacist said that I can't mix them with a list of things so I have to stick to paracetomol unfortunately !!
