Hi, I am scheduled to have a simple 7cm right ovarian cyst removed Monday. I just had a look on my info sheet and the name of procedure is listed as removal of both ovaries with follopian tubes. Is this right? Do they state the worst possible scenario? I am super concerned! What did they list as the title of your procedure? Thank you :-)

Hi Kathi! I just had surgery last Thursday. Yes, they listed this on mine as well which freaked me out a little. You give permission in case they have to take these out for a variety of reasons. I ended up only loosing my left Fallopian tube (along with the cysts). However, my endometriosis was so bad that she is now suggesting I consider a hystorectomy which makes me wonder why we couldn't have discussed this as well prior to surgery? Although it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be, I don't want to do it again! LOL I am now waiting for the pathology report which is driving me nuts! Let me k ow if you need any other tips or have any questions. You will do great!

Hi Christine, thank you for your reply. Congrats for coming out on the other end. I'm sure waiting for pathology is super stressful - "I can't wait!", but it mostly comes back well, so I'm sure yours will be too. I called the dr and nurse, but they are both o/s, so no answers. Since I figured that on the consent from that the doc wrote by hand he described the procedure as a cystectomy =/-oophorectomy, but on the cost estimate it is ovary/tube removal. This calmed me down a little. He explained that he may need to take the ovary, which I really-really hope he wouldn't. They don't unless it is a must right?

I would think you would have to sign a pre-surgical form and you can alter/notate anything you don't agree to. First talk to your surgeon. Confirm that cystetomy is the primary plan and ask what would cause the need to take tbe ovary. Sounds like he is a conservative surgeon which is good. Take no more than necessary.
I didn't find out my surgeon planned on a tptal hysterectomy until check-in! So good you have time to discuss with your surgeon further.

I had horrible endometriosis that wasn't discovered until surgery. (I had no pain from it) i hope your surgeon cleaned up what she could. I lost over 10 lbs from the tissue removed.
I would ask your surgeon why a hysterectomy? Is uterus consumed by endo? What is condition of ovarie(s). My surgeon said he took everything to prevent regrowth. Also would not prescribe HRT for same reason. However, by taking my uterus he devastated my sexual pleasure. Now there is bearly a whisper. To the point sometimes I can't even tell if anything happened. Your ovaries produce the hormones that cause the endometrial tissue to grow. Once they are gone the remaining endometrial tissue will die off. Drs. tend to tell you why you need something removed without the potential side effects. Once it's gone there's no going back. Plus, there are some options to try to manage endometriosis that may be feasible depending on your situation.. Sounds like your surgeon has your best interest in mind so make a list of questions and discuss at your follow up visit. Sorry you may need another surgery.

I had my ovaries and tubes removed along with a 7cm cyst. I knew when we scheduled the surgery exactly what was being done. I asked that they remove my tubes and ovaries and even a hysterectomy if they found it necessary. Ended up with just my tubes and ovaries removed. I would think your surgeon would have discussed removal the tubes and ovaries. I am super happy I had them removed and a little disappointed when I woke up and found out they didn't do a hysterectomy as well. I would definelty call and talk to your dr so you are crystal clear on what exactly they will be doing.
