Have you been tested for a hiatal hernia?  i have had a feeling in my throat now for about 6 months and it is driving me crazy. There is not much they can do for the hiatl hernia save for surgery and that's only if it's really bad. I have done a ton of research and there are not a lot of answers so I am trying many different things. Just tried a chiroprator but I don't think it helped any. I am now trying to lose a few pounds. I have read that even a modest weight loss of 5 to 10 pounds can resolve the hernia and therefore relieve the pressure in the throat. I am not overweight but certainly have 5 or 10 pounds to spare, so I am going to try. I will let you know if it works.

Carol- Your post really has be terrified that I will be dealing with this same lump in throat feeling for years to come. I have been dealing with mine since April so about 5 months. I can't stand it. Been to Stomach Dr. and ENT back and forth with no answers except for my thorat being red so they gave me a diagnois of LPR. This is when stomach acid and pepsin get to the upper part of your airway not to be confused with GERD. It can definitely cause a lump in throat sensation. I finally got an appointment this coming week to see a John Hopkins specialist once I see him I will post back what he said. I have tried all the non acidic diets, the PPIs even the natural remedies and I always have this lump in throat sensation. It drives me mad and I am so depressed over it too! You are not alone let me know what your feeling is- have you had tests done?

hello Kic . Yes I have had tests nothing was found which is a good thing , the doctor did say it could be acid reflux and I am trying to lose a few pounds I'm not over weight so a few pounds won't hurt me .. one doctor told me to go away and forget about it ... easier said then done cruel really  as I would very much like to forget about it .. keep in contact . .

I just had a test last week it measures ph in esophagus I had a tube placed in my nose that went in esophagus and wore it for 24 hours there was a monitor hooked up that did a reading I did not get results back yet but drs think I have nerve damage in my voice box area that cause me to cough 1000 times a day. I had acid reflux surgery in 1998 but it's not suppose to last forever so he wanted to check this out. I have a few symptoms of throat spasm and lump in throats but mainly pin prick feelings and coughing. I am on 10 mgs of amytriptlime which is pretty effective but makes me a little sleepy. I have had voice box botoxed which was effective but I lose my voice for 6 weeks or so. If I had globus or other sensations I would give the drug a try what do you have to lose? Drs say globus is caused from anexiety anyway

Thankyou Carrie , I am on Amytripylyn it does help me sleep but I feel rather Groggy all day The Doctors I've seen have told me it's anexiety I don't feel like I am but perhaps it comes from years ago ....

Just reading your story Carol, there is far too many of us suffering with this globus sensation.

I triggered my globus 2 years ago via swallowing some cello tape by accident which affected something. The dryness at the back of my throat is horrid, and makes me have to drink all the time. They gave me acid reflux tablets but didn't seem to work ( and not great to be taking every day) I do some exercises daily that helps a little, but the drying, or the sensation I have burnt the back of my throat is not a pleasure. So please if anyone has any ideas.... Please please share them .

Don't feel bad I drink alcohol too for the same reason. I just want a break from the constant feeling of pressure in my throat. I have noticed that sometimes, but not always, if I get and and simply not eat anything, the feeling is less noticable until I do eat. And it does not matter what I eat, though while eating it doesnt bother me. So many people have this problem and Dr's just don't take it very seriously. It absolutely messes with our quality of life.

Mine started with a virus then Almost 2 years ago I was intibubated with open heart surgery and it got a lot worse. Went to Mayo Clinic and uw Madison clinic and initially in my home town. All doctors are in agreement that I have nerve damage in my throat probably from virus and worse from intibation. My symptoms is a patch of dryness that comes and goes seldom I get a throat spasm sometimes a pin prick all these symptoms make me cough 1000 times a day. Drugs for this condition are gabapenton lyrica cymbalta and amatriptlyne. All have side effects. I have tried all these for other conditions and can't tolerate them except for the amatriptlyne. This drug ar 25 mgs made me really tired I am down to 10 mgs a day it does help it's a cheap drug would hurt to try for a month ask your dr. My vocal cord area has also been botoxed 2 times what it does is mask the nerve that brings on the sensation it worked also but I loose my voice for 4 to 6 weeks. I think I will stick to the amytriptline. Not sure I spelling drug names correctly

      Hi Carrie

You have been through so much it seems, so you have a very good reason to have anxiety in your life, as they seem to say this is a very big park of it. But really I swallowed a little cello tape and now have an anxiety problem, with globus it makes you feel like that because nothing seems to help it.

Thank you for you suggestion on the drugs, I may have a look. Otherwise I'm going to keep drinking large amounts of any liquid!!!

But I don't have anxiety lol. I do have a little depression tho and not on meds for it because it's mild and just a moody day here and there. I don't like the amytroptlone as it makes me sleep but it does something to cover the sensations in my throat I have to say it does work good luck in figuring yours out. Viruses can wreak havoc on nerves. I remember when I had a severe cold fever etc and all symptoms went away except the cough. That's my diagnosis. Hypersensitivity to throat from virus. Maybe your throat got hypersensitive from tape. It's a cheap drug worth a try.
