Small black/purple spot under right big toe, runs left to right not vertically

hey so I have noticed a few days ago a small blackish spot maybe 1mm vertical and 4mm horizontal runs from left to right at the base of my large toenail, and basically been winding myself up looking at the internet, I have no pain in my toe I'm 22 otherwise mostly healthy I do run or walk quite a bit every day should I get this checked out or is it nothing? Thanks in advance for the advice.

    John you may have just banged your toe and this could grow out but it is always worth getting some reassurance from a doctor. Sometimes fungal infections can infect the nail bed .

      Thank you for the replie'how long would you suggest leaving it till I see a doctor I have only had it a few days at most.

      I too do lots of walking and several of our group have at times had black nails caused by knocks and bruises. The black nail eventually grows out but it is worth havibg anything you are concerned about checked by someone professional
