double vision after cataract surgery

Had my 2nd cataract surgery a week ago and have had double vision ever since. The surgeon stated it may have been caused from hitting a vein with the needle and the blood pooling on the muscle and bruising it. He also said my double vision is at a 10 degree and doesnt feel time will heal this  so he is recommending  I go see a muscle specialist to have surgery. Has anyone had a simular experience? I believe the needle hit the muscle causing this double vision. This is very debilitating.

    I had a lense that replaced the cataracts and my vision was worse. Then a second lense for astigmatism, they put the wrong lense in the first time. 

    My vision did not improve then laser. I see double too! Very annoying and I can hardy see by the end of the day.

    now just letting eye rest. It's not getting better. 

    i hope they can sort out your vision.

      Thank you, I hope the best for you too. What is your prognosis? My surgeon said I would most likely need surgery on my muscle due to its all related to the eye muscle (from inserting his needle).

       It is very frustrating and dibilitating.

    I'd suggest getting a second opinion from an experienced ophthalmologist, perhaps one who treats vision disorders and doesn't specialize in refractive surgery.  You might ask your family care physician for a recommendation.

      I wasn't trying to suggest that your surgeon is inexperienced; sorry if it came across that way.  I'm suggesting that it might be helpful to see someone else, especially an ophthalmologist who has a lot of experience, especially with less usual problems, and doesn't necessarily specialize in refractive surgery.

      Thank you , You didnt come across the wrong way, I just wish I can find a Dr. who specializes in the eye muscle and trust them. The one's in my area do not have good reputations. My surgeon could not answer a couple of questions today. Very disappointing

      How far are you from a medium to large city?  Are there any large teaching hospitals in your area?

    Do you know I get more and more confused when I read all the problems people have after cataract ops, In my first comment I said I spoke to lots of people who had either had or knew or someone who had had the cataract op, they all said it was a straightforward op with no after effects, if there is anyone reading the comments on this site who has had the cataract op and it was just fine, please would you write about it, we all very much want to know.

    You poor thing, it sounds terrible what has happened to you, again has anyone else experienced this!

      Hi Agnes,

      Keep in mind that people who have a successful cataract surgery and are happy usually do not seek out forums such as this, so you generally won't hear from them here.  Online forums are self-selecting for people with problems.  I think the large majority of people who get cataract surgery are happy with the results, but that doesn't mean everyone is.  It's an unfortunate fact that all surgery carries risk, and factors such as the skill and experience of the surgeon, the pre-existing state of the patient's eyes and visual system as well as general health, plus simple luck, all factor into the outcome.

      You are right, I dont expect those who have had the op want or need to read this problem page, and thats a pity because it would be so good to hear that it has gone well for others, you are right also that underlying problems that someone may have will affect the result of the cataract op. So far nobody has had any of my symptoms but I will still watch out, and the site is good for some people who may be helped by what other have to say about similar symptoms.  It would have been a great help to have know about dos and donts prior to surgery and afterwards, I wondered if I had done something wrong that has caused my problems.

      Hi Agnes . Got your message. I had caraeact surgery last monday. The 13th feb. Not a nice operation but really successful

    I never had any problems after cataract surgery. I had both eyes done in August 2015. However, about one month ago. I started to get double vision in both eyes. The double vision is one on top of the other, not side by side. At first the eye doctor thought it was due to dry eyes.or due to my diabetes, however, my blood glucose levels are normal. So my doctor suggested a prism in my eye glasses. Which would correct my double vision.

    In the past, another doctor asked me if I ever hit my head on the ground or was in a car wreck where my head hit any car part, that head injury could cause double vision.

    But I have never had a head injury. But before cataract surgery, I experienced double vision years ago and prism glasses did help.

    But due to the high cost of prism glasses, I have not gotten them yet.The cataract surgery improved my far and close vision. Before the surgery, I thought I was going to have to learn braille because that is how bad my vision was.

    Has your doctor recommended prism glasses to you. Have you gotten a second opinion fron another doctor or advise on how to correct your vision

      Hello John, My double vision degree was too high to consider prisim glasses but at my last visit the degree came down significantly.  up and down double vision has improved ( still slightly there) and will continue to get measured for degrees on a weekly basis. May still need prisims if there is a stand still with the improvment. Thank you, sorry to hear about your double vision months later, hope it improves on its own.

    Cataract surgery done 3 years ago involved two lenses. One for astigmatism failed and later laser to correct vision as mt vision was so bad that I could not see a 4"letter sign 5' away. Also double vision. By the end of the day can hardly see vision is so blurred.

      so sorry to here you are still having problems, did you get a second opinion? 3 years seems to long to still have problems
