The liver has no nerve endings, it does not give painful feelings. Is it upper right quadrant?

Hi I here this said many times so why do nearly all people with liver problems complain of upper right quadrant pain?

No it's below ribs I know the liver has no nerves it enlarges and touches nerves around it hence fatty liver its enlarged touching nerves

did you get only an ultra sound? my Dr did tea sound was very unbothered like "oh you have a lil bit of fatty liver nothing too concerning" I was sent to a gi specialist who saw that and insisted on more liver blood work and a fibro scan. I've read that blood work and ultrasound are not always reliable tests for liver. perhsps request a fibroscan? still waiting on my results its been a couple weeks so hopefully no news is good news. I'm concerned over the pain (often under ribs). what is your pain like?? mine is sometimes burning others gnawing.

Hi mate I think your doing the correct things, keep drinking loads of water, eat the right foods, and avoid sugars and fatty foods as sugar for me triggers a flare up! And running for me gives me so much relief! After a good run pretty much all the pain goes but does come back over the next day or so!! Not sure why but it defo works for me, your lucky in some ways as you have a diagnosis I've had liver area pain for nearly 20 years blood always perfect except for high cholesterol and ultra sound good too, your learn pretty quickly that unless your yellow with a pot belly and a red nose the medical profession don't give you the time of day! I have so many of what seam like the obvious signs of liver problems that I find it so frustrating! I find myself not going to doctors anymore unless I'm feeling really unwell!! Anxiety apparently but I know it's my liver!!!!! Just looking to pay for a private Fibroscan apparently as good as a biopsy! Good luck and keep me updated Simon aged 43

I'd like a Fibroscan but know I will get a No from my doctor if I asked cos they are expensive.   Ferritin levels are a good way of checking for liver damage, I'm having my next set of LFT's soon.

I also seem to have less of the pain in that area when I've been active, went on vacation lots of walking barely felt it despite eatting pasta every day...now I'm home and it's back. seems sometimes bending or sitting make it noticeable too. hope your doing well still. ever get a diagnosis?
