Do the DWP contact you with PIP review?

I have put in for a PIP mandatory review. Some people say they contact you via phone when you ask for a review is that right? I'm not very good with phone conversations these days.

Highly unlikely. The MR will just look at the previous decision and decide if it was the right decision or not. Statistics show that approx 85% of MRs' don't change the original decision.

?You are not forced to use the phone. If you find it difficult tell them as they have to accommodate your needs and requirements - you can deal with everything via  letter/post.

    Hi Pamela,

how did you request the MR.  I have not been through this process, but listening to others it seems the best way to request one, is in writing.

I just know that some people will be able to advise you, so stand by.  Good luck x

I applied for a review in writting with extra evidence from specialists and my GP. I had just heard that they phone you to discuss it. I hate using the phone so was a bit nervous. From the answers though, it sounds like that is not the case.

Just a waiting game now sad

It's the waiting that is the worst. Hopefully they won't keep you waiting too long. x

    Hi Pamela

As stated you can conduct your MR via letter. Indeed I would advise you to do so as there is a written record using your words. Also you need to challenge the decision, simply asking them to 'look again' at your claim will result in the same decision.

You do this by getting a copy of your assessment and then match it against the PIP descriptors which are easily found online. To change the decision you need to score more points by fitting a descriptor. Once you have identified where you could score more points explain why and match it to any medical/care evidence you have.

Remember the time limits which are one month from the date on the decision letter you received informing you that you had failed to get PIP.

Hi I think this is all done via letter, I am currently in the process of sorting out my review out following a descion to reduce my rate to the lower rate following my last assessment. I was trying to establish if whilst your asking for the mandatory consideration do they put a hold on your payments etc..... has anyway ever had this happen to them or aware of what they do etc..... thanks in advance

I can't emphasis enough that you send all paper work no matter for what reason to send recorded/registered post, keep copies of everything you send and remember when asking them to look at it again you need to actually persuade them that what you originally put on your forms was adequate for them to rework it.

I don't think you can add medical reports at this stage, but not sure, think that should have done when applying.

Did they say what scores you were allocated as that will show you where you lost out.

Yes I sent it recorded. They said I could add evidence so I did. I was given points on using aids. I argued that I could not use aids because I have problems with my hands. Carpal tunnel in both hands and numbess and pain from my neck problems. Therefore I need physical help not aids.

Hi, If you ask for a mandatory decision, then tell them you do not want any telephone calls about this.Evidently they just ring and give you a decision then without looking at the paperwork you are sending in also write on the mandatory reconsideration that you do not want any phone calls concerning this
