I recently had my Carnitine levels tested since before I started taking a supplement. I was hopeful they were out of whack and that was what was causing my heart rate to be all messed up. Well my results came back and they are as follow:
Carnitine total 31 ref range is 25-58
Carnitine free 24 ref range is 19-48
Carnitine esters 7 ref range is 4-13
Esterified/free ratio 0.28 ref range is 0.13-0.42
My vitamin d results are as followed
Vit d 25 hydroxy. 24 and ref range is 30-100
So I am low on vitamin d.
I see my gp today to discuss my results. Any other ideas why my heart rate would be so high unless I stay on atenolol? My thyroid levels are all normal right now although my tsh levels are raising and I was actually retested today because my dr is thinking that I am going into hypo now.
One second I'm freezing and shaking then the next I'm having a hot flash. My legs are weak and shakey and I have horrible anxiety. And some days I'm so tired I can't keep my eyes open. My throats hurts and depression has been a battle. I never know what symptom I am going to have to wake up and have to deal with. It's starting to take its toll on me. Some days my hr is slow in the 60's other days it's high the highest I have seen it is 162. That was while off atenolol for 10 days.
Any advice???

I just started vit d 2000iu. A daily multi vit and folic acid. I bought some L Carnitine but haven't started taking it yet.
No I don't think I'm menopausal I just turned 33 today.
My endocrinologist diagnosed me with hashitoxcosis. I've only seen her twice since being diagnosed with hyperthyroidism back in June and this last time she told me to find a new Endoc closer to home. Well I did but the soonest I could get in is December 28 th

Your carnitine levels although in range are at the lower end of the range. There is a condition that mimics thyroid disease called pheochromocytoma. It is a caused by a usually benign tumour of the adrenal gland. It causes large amounts of hormones to be produced which causes the symptoms. Most pheochromocytomas are benign. However, they overproduce hormones (called catecholamines), which can cause serious health problems, such as high blood pressure and heart problems. Pheochromocytomas occur most often between the ages of 29 and 50 years. I would raise this with your doctor and ask for a referral to an Endocrinologist.

It is not unusual for TSH level to vary even in people with normal thyroid or thyroid disease in remission. However, when it varies out of range or extreme shifts, i.e. high to low, I have only seen that pattern in Hashimoto's thyroiditis or pheochromocytoma, or people who have taken Acetyl-L-Carnitine without knowing how to adjust it, so you need to ask your doc to give you a proper diagnosis in order to manage your disease. There are tests for Hashi's (TGAb antibody testing and anti-TPO for inflammation marker) and there are specific tests for Pheochromocytoma as well.

She says I have hashitoxcosis. I have not started taking the L- Carnitine yet. I am taking a multi vitamin my folic acid and now 9000IU of vitamin D. I called my new endocrinologist again today and he still can't get me in until December 28 th. I called my old endocrinologist and of course no answer and no call back. I'm left guessing. My gp is helping all he can but he isn't a specialist

wow that is really high up there. last month i got to 2.24 and I was complaining to my endo already. I was asking them to lower my dosage. I'm getting this hypo symptoms: forgetful, hard to lose weight even with my working out and eating habits down, the plus side to it is I'm getting this nice full8 hours sleep instead of 6 or 7 hours. May i ask what's your dosage on methimazole or tapazole?

If you get tested and find out you have Hashimoto's, Regular L-Carnitine 3,000 mg per day will control your thyroid labs and cause fewer extreme swings. I say this based on many postings I have seen by Hashi patients who have tried this. Even though there have been studies on the benefits of hyperthyroid patients benefitting from that dosage of L-Carnitine, not too many physicians are aware of this study unless patients bring in the published research to them at their visit. It was done by the Italian Endocrinologist, Dr. Salvatore Benvenga from Italy and you can find it fairly easy over the Internet.
