Extreme Eye Stiffness

Posted , 6 users are following.

I spend arround 10 hours a day in front of a screen. For the past years I feel my eyes very tired to the point now i just feel comfortable with them closed.

What concerns me the most is how hard it is for me now to keep my eyes open like there is some kind of force pulling my eyelids down. It's not a sleepy feeling but more like my eyeballs are struggling against the surrounding muscles.

When I look up/down or sideways I feel my eyes/muscles very stiff and have the feeling I can only look half the way in those directions and if i hold my eyes up for example for like 10 seconds I get dizzy and very confused when eyes get to the center.

I have this stifness in my eyes from the first moment I wake up instead of feeling rested and relaxed eyes.

If I pull my eyelids and surrounding muscles up (with the use of my fingers) I feel very relieved and my eyesballs can move freely almost without that stiff feeling.

Is this at work or at home? Companies have a duty to give you breaks and eye tests.

Home. I do some breaks and eye exercises but it doesn't seem to regist any progress. Everyday I wake up the same.

I hope you have seen a eye doctor or something? That sounds uncomfortable; do you have other symptoms?

I went to eye doctor. Doctor preformed the normal routine and said everything looked fine but he shedule a visit to neuro-ophthalmology that will take 6 months.

I'm getting light sensitive but in very specific conditions and not all the time. I can be in the sun and see perfectly but if I'm in front of a screen with min. brightness the light gives me kinda of mental confusion and can't read very well as lettering seems to be pulsating.

Night vision is worst. Some nights I see halos in light bulbs and way to intense and blury traffic signs and car lights (specialy the back red lights and ambulance lights).

Six months in my area as well to see an NHS neurologist, He referred me to a neurosurgeon and I was told that I was 611 on the list with a 39 week waiting time. I then went privately.

He wanted me to see a neurologist who specialises in in a certain area of Neuropathy. He is in London but does one morning a week in Kent and that is almost as bad to get to with a two hour journey and is a 20 week waiting list.

I would avoid massaging/rubbing them. A girl in another thread here damaged her eyes doing that.

wow, i thought medical was more messed up here in the US then where you are, i guess we are all in the same boat. we have to pay for western medicine even though I don't use it and I still have to pay for my natural care out of my own pocket. hang in there!

Yep. I'm from Portugal and in general other health issues don't take so long I believe. We can get some blood tests done in a couple of days, but eyecare always had very long waiting times.

For the "normal" eyedoctor I waited 10 months!! And for the neuro-ophthalmology there is only one doctor doing one day a week in the hospital. And I'm in one the most developed cities in the country!

I completly agree that a break would be a big relief to my problem I can't recall last time I took 2 or 3 straight day off a screen. When we got work to do is always hard but a I agree it has to be done or one day eyes will give up.

we have eye doctors on ever corner, in grocery stores, and MD and dentists everywhere. We have to wait to get a new doc if you want to change who you see, but if you have a regualr doc, you can get in in a couple/few days.  There is always "Doc in the Box" as we call it, they are on every street corner as well but very expencive.  The docs, imo, are pretty usless. I have wasted sooo much money on them and they never hve been helpful.  SO I got to an ND (natural doc) and pay out of pocket.

Portugal sounds so wonderful. I bet it is beautiful there!  ANd your music is fab!!

I had to wait for 54 weeks to have my aortic valve replaced. My friend in Baltimore only had to wait for three weeks.

the long weights, do a lot of people die because they are too sick, or do they take in the critically ill faster? or do you know?

A difficult question but my sister in law had two more heart attacks while waiting for her bypass. I theory the worst cases get priority.

Much also depends on the part of the country you live in for the facilities available. Know here as the Post Code Lottery.

Two years ago you could get cataract surgery within two months as I did now due to financial cut backs they can take over a years wait. My wife was referred to the hospital last October and has twice been told not yet. Her next appointment is in April of next year.

Here in the UK private medicine is not instant as the consultants are nearly all employed by the NHS and do their private work on the side and usually at several private hospitals.

Private ones I've been have seen me on a Saturday morning or an evening. The one I need to see at the moment sees two patients between 8.30 and 9.15 am at the private clinic before going to his NHS hospital. So before going to his real job he has made himself about four hundred and fifty pounds.

If the NHS was set up like the veterinary services we would all be seen, diagnosed and treated on the same day... at a price.
