Cataract issues

Posted , 3 users are following.

I had a Random retinal detachment in may 2016. Four days after surgery I was told I had developed a very large dense cataract, which they expected, just not so quickly. In October 2016 I had lens implant cataract surgery and just got stitches removed last week and was told I have a macular hole that must have developed between the two surgeries. I saw the original surgeon today and he was of little help. He's very rude and condescending, but I'm at his mercy since I have no insurance. He said he could not confirm a macular hole and couldn't explain why I have such poor vision. My eye feels awkward, like it's out of place, and my vision in that eye is like looking through a fishbowl. It's very frustrating!!! The second surgeon said I'm still not legal to drive and ignores any questions I ask. One of his nurses faxed paperwork of my medical information and surgery to somewhere without my consent or knowledge and when I questioned her on it she became very rude and said she would just call their attorney. I don't know what to do. I'm about to lose my job and my license because I cannot see. I can see people, but I have no focus, or depth perception. Glasses are useless. I don't know what to do . I'm paying 100% out of pocket for this since I have no insurance, but they're being so nasty to me, and my vision is so much worse. They act like im faking my bad vision. I a! Desperate for any ideas of what to do or what may be wrong.

P.s. during cataract surgery they said the lens I was fitted for would not work due to inside anatomy of my eye so they used a different lens...not sure what to make of that?

Are you in this country or America as you say you dont have Insurance, in Britain you dont need Insurance, if you are in the States, you would probably need to consult a Medical Lawyer, here in Britain you get whats called Legal Aid and they would take you through the process without charge, you dont sound very old, and I am heartfelt sorry for you and really hope there is something can be done to repair your eyes/sight.  I hope too that there is someone else reading your letter and would be a much better help to you then me and in a better position to advise.

I have had both my cataracts done, my sight is fine but I am having other problems but they are incidental compared to you

    Kindest Regards Agnes

Yes I'm in he states, Tennessee. I will be 44 next month. There's no help like that for me here. My state didn't expand their Medicaid program which is what helps those with low income like myself. Since they didn't expand I do not qualify for any medical benefits. Im paying cash out of pocket. They are testing me nov 7th and 9th for retinal disease and glaucoma but it doesn't really ! matter. I have no way to pay for more surgery or treatment. Thank you for your kind words.

Hi Pamela, You have such a long life ahead of you and your eyes are important, I am always hoping that there would be someone reading about your problem thay could help or advise, obviously it would have to be an eye specialist, did they test you for Glucoma before your operations and they must have examinted the density of your cataracts too, my thoughts are with you and please keep us updated with whats happening

    Hi Pamela

Without sight. without a driver's license, without a job??!! Get out of Tennessee...to a state that has a decent Medicaid program.

I am in Colorado. Also consider the level of eye care available. Illinois has the fabulous University of Illinois at Chicago Eye Research Center that Lions Clubs of Illinois built back in the eighties.

So , you have a course of action. The toughest part is the first step. I love the Smoky Mountains, the music, the atmosphere of Tennessee but...

Go to the National Institute of Health online and research....they will list which universities are doing what research, drug studies, etc.

First get the eye taken care of. As to the money you owe, get out the old fashioned paper checks and religiously sent each one owed a check for $15.00 each and every month. In the memo section write: Balance owed fill in the amount

    ,

You are doing this because by cashing the check they are agreeing to accept payments. Once you begin this, save every scrap of paper they send to you and NEVER answer their phone calls but save the notification of the call in your cell. You do not want to speak with them. Go silent.

After you learn from your neweye doctor in another state, if your suspicions can be proven true, you will need to hire a high powered malpractice attorney...I know of a good one.

Yes this is frightening...you can do it. Your just getting to the halfway point in your life. And one more thing, Social Security disability. My health added me to the roles at age 32 so I will help you with this as well.

Now, Chicago is not that far away. Less than a day's drive. Make an appointment and keep it.

Big warm hugs, you are not alone
