Nephrotic Syndrome Relapse in Child.. What should i do ?

Hello,
My nephew was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome 4 months ago at the age of 5 and half years. Doctors started him on 12 ml Prednisone daily and his urine protein levels came down to 0 within 7 -10 days. Thereafter, his dosage was gradually tapered and at the end of 4 months, he was on 3ml prednisone on alternative days.
We were very hopeful that his medicines will be tapered to Nil and he will be in remission. Suddenly, he caught cold and seasonal allergy and he relapsed with his protein levels going up to 3+. Doctor said he cannot comment whether this relapse occurred due to tapering or due to onset of infection/allergy.
We still don't know whether he is steroid dependent or not.
Can anyone help in this case ?

Sorry, to have to say I've had same condition. G.P. said most children grow out of it. Adults don't do as well.
Specialist thought it may be related to colds and influenza and a side effect of, but he cannot prove it. No one seems to know the cause of this condition or how to treat it successfully. Would do the best you can to protect the child from influenza and have a normal healthy diet. Personally I avoided health food cures and herbal remedies

Recently, he had a relapse. Doctor increased his prednisone to 5 ml daily but he did not go into remission. Doctor has now increased the dosage to 10 ml daily but he his still spilling protein.
Is it possible that a child respond to prednisone in the initial epidode very well but does not do so in later episodes?
