Smelling cigarette smoke, and now scared of MS

Hi there,

I started to smell cigarette smoke occaissionally when none was around so I Googled it and was scaed to see brain tumor could cause this. I am not so scared of the tumor, but I have notice that I have been getting muscle twitches in my left arm, and I have had them in my right arm too. My doctor did the nerve hammer test on my arms and said they were good, and he is sending me to have a ct scan on my sinuses and my brain to rule stuff, out. He didn't think I have a tumor. I am having brain fog, and anxiety over this. I have somehow got myself so scared I might have MS.

Can someone help me?

Dont be scared Mike, it seems unlikely that you have it based on what you are describing so you just have to keep onto the neuro to find out what it is

Thaks Steven. I am just struggling with this brain fog sometimes, and I have some confusion when trying to type things. Its got me a little scared. I have had twtiches in my finger for years, and something should have gotten worse by now if it was something bad right?

My right eye also is a little blurry when i try to read things, so I am scared of that too.

I understand Mike I had MS for 5 years before it was actually diagnosed so all that time I worried what the hell was wrong with me. There are two main types of MS which are RRMS (relapsing remmitting MS) and PPMS (primary progressive MS) I have PPMS which means the disease just steadily gets worse but with rrms the problems come for a while and then seems to go away but then comes back again. Some people go years between attacks but thats rare. We all suffer with the brain fog and that can be a nightmare  when you are working and keep forgetting things. However as I have said it seems unlikely you have it but you must still keep at your GP to keep sending you to various Specialists until you find out what it is. Meanwhile you are welcome to chat here to keep your spirits up. Whatever you have it can be dealt with.

      Thanks Steven!

I am starting to think it isn't MS. I have health anxiety, and I sometimes jump to the worst case scenario right away instead of thinking that it could be something simple.

I am working through this and am starting to feel better. I haven't had any weakness, but have some brain fog and muscle twitches on both sides of my body, but I think that it is anxiety getting the better of me.

      Thanks for your help!

Its amazing how stress can affect the body, my wife has severe OCD and its a nightmare to watch her getting worked up over the stupidist things.

Get an appointment with your GP and talk it through. Best of luck
