Pressing into my lower back feels like needles, now with back pain

Trying to figure out if someone may have same symptoms that I do. I'm 33 and for the past 8 years have not been able to have my lower back touched. I have always just associated it with having epidurals during my pregnancy. (Had 3 back to back because they wouldn't work). My back was fine otherwise unless you touched it then your fingers feel like needles pushing in. Same with my legs, you can't put any pressure on the sides of them without it hurting. Here recently I have been having lower back pain when standing up. When I get out of my car or get up in the mornings I have to stand bent over for a minute until I can slowly stand straight up. Now if I am standing straight up and bend slightly to my left, the pain is felt in my left hip. My right hip side is fine. I can't bend backwards (like your stretching) without feeling pain in my lower back. Has anyone else heard of this or experienced it? I was thinking about seeing a chiropractor but they scare me. Would a back specialist be better in anyone’s opinion?

I also forgot to mention that there are times I wake up at night with my left leg in pain because it is completely asleep that it starts throbbing. I'm not sure if it is related to my current issure or not.

I have dealt with chronic back pain for 10 years. It sounds like you are on your way to that now so you need to put a stop to it now if possible. I would recomend that you see your GP right away about this. Personally I saw a chiropractor for a year and it never did me any good. He was a great guy but I feel like I through my money away. Physical therapy would work though. I've done this with success. And I highly recommend it. Your GP should do a MRI on your back to see what's going on there. He/she might even refer you to a specalist like a neurologist or an orthopedic doctor. Either of those doctors will want an MRI for sure.Good luck on this issue. I hope your sake that you get to nip this in the bud. I would not wish this horriblness on anyone.

My wife spent a lot on a chiropractor and it did more harm than good. An osteopath has helped much more. She saw her GP again today and she yelped when he pressed into the facet joint in her lower back.

He is arranging for an X-Ray and has given her a supply of Versatis Lidocaine patches

    What tests have you had?

I haven't had any test done yet. I was trying to see if anyone else has had the same thing so I could decide if a chiropractor or a specialist would be a better option.

8 years is a long time to have put up with back pain and not had medical advice. Quite likely it is caused by epidurals or childbirth but you do need a proper diagnosis..

I know it is but the only time it bothered me is if someone tried to say message my lower back. But here recently is when the constant pain has started.

Hi Michelle;  I am wondering if the cause/s maybe secondary to your epidurals?   "sometimes" when these procedures ae done, nerves may become "intangled/knotted", and it does feel like the area is being penetrated by a Needle/sharp knife.    To make sure that you don't do any more harm, I would suggest that you ask your GP to have a referral to a Rhuematologist, and if then no answers, then try a Neurologist/Orthopaedic/Back Specialist?  Please don't let Anyone try manipulating/injecting Pain Relief into these areas, until you are SURE that they know the cause.   Yes an MRI is definately a good idea, and talk to a Rhuematologist as they seem to be more knowledgeable re this/these types of pain. (if someone like an Osteopath or Musculosketal Dr attempts to inject, definately say NO, as this can deepen the problem).....Hoping this gives you some direction in a positive way?                       Bron

Yes it does, thank you! I'm not a big fan of needles in the first place so I'll make sure to question anyone wanting to give me injections. I plan on going to a specialist Friday instead of a chiropractor. Hopefully they can figure out what is really going on.

I wanted to let everyone know that I went to a chiropractor (my dr couldn't get me in for a couple weeks) and after he did xrays I found out that my right leg is shorter than my left and it's a pretty good descrepancy and it has caused my spin to curve. He said he would bet it has caused my nerve to be pinched which has caused my nerve damage on my pack (the needle pain I get when it's touched). So I will go straight to an orthopedics and see if they can create me a lift for my right foot. Hopefully this will give me relief.

Morning Michelle;  I am interested in knowing how you get on with your Orthopod, and when you say " a significant difference in leg measurements"?   It is a common factor that we all have one side of our body a little different to the other (even upto hips etc).  If we all lie out flat and take note, we will note that our knees and ankles don't Completely match up.   When you say a Significant difference, that is interesting, and am wondering how much, and if leg is different, how/what nerve is being pinched? From what I have learn't previously,   the nerves that go down our legs, usually radiate from around our Cocyx area, and no further up than our waistline/hip region???

?Can you let me/us know what your Ortho says, and if he agrees with your present thoughts from Chiropractor, as this will be a learning curve for me, as well, and am really interested in what new teachings there are.   Thankyou,    Bronsmile

      Hey Bron!

I will definitely let you/everyone know what come out of my meeting with an orthopedic doctor. I'll be calling first thing in the morning. It was the weirdest thing looking at my xray and thinking it was crooked but it wasn't. I did find out that this runs in my family. I would like to know what nerve as well that could be pinched and if I was to do therapy if it would reverse the nerve damage.

I'll take notes from the doctor and I'll be happy to share them here.
