Gnawning pain in upper stomach

Hi guys,

I have been having pain in my upper abdomen, right below my chest (in the very middle) this pain started about 3 years ago. It is unbearable at times. I need a solution to get rid of this pain. It all started in 2012 I started noticing that when I eat I get full after a few bites, then I felt like something was stuck in my throat. I saw a ENT doctor who checked my throat with a scope and everything was normal and referred me to a GI doc who ordered an EGD. The test came back positive for H.pilori.. which was treated with antibiotics and was cleared. After that it was like things got worst. symptoms got worst, but no other diagnosis. I have seen many GI specialists since and have had many tests done. I had 3 endoscopies so far, 2 with biopsy and all came back normal. The Docs just keep telling me its acid and to take a these acid medications, I try but they don't help AT ALL, I actually feel worst on the meds. crazy side effects. The current GI doctor I'm seeing had me do a stool test, and the test came back positive for Blastocistis Hominis bacteria. I was treated with antibiotics (Bactrim) but the pain is still there. No relief whatsoever! I'm just writing this post in case someone out there has experienced this or something similar. This thing is stressing me out. Please share any helpful tips

Thanks, Eddy.

Ask your doctor for a different antibiotic if you are feeling worse on them.  You may also be resistant to the medication and therefore still infected if you are still getting symptoms. Ask to be retested for the infections you had.  Another possibility is that the antibiotics have irritated your stomach but you are infection free.  Try yoghurt and probiotics to help your gut flora.

@ pippa58442 Thanks for your reply.

I have recently test for H pylori again, and confirmed that I don't have H pylori. I think the antibiotics may have destroyed good and bad bacteria. Which may be causing digestive system to not function as it should. I have been taking probiotics for the past 4 months or so. Just waiting for a breakthrough.

I just want to be able to eat and feel normal again. I have lost so much weight because I can barely eat without pain and feeling choked.

Yes. He has already ruled out IBS after reviewing my previous tests and recent ones. SIBO is bacteria overgrowth right?.. if so, I believe that's the test i just did. I had to collect stool samples in a bottle. He just said he wanted to test for bacterial overgrowth. Just waiting till I see him to tell me what the results are and figure out how we move forward.

SIBO is bacteria overgrowth which can produce IBS like symptoms.  If your test is positive, hopefully you can get appropriate treatment to get your intestine back on track.

    UPDATE:

So my tests came back negative for bacterial overgrowth. And I retested for a bacteria that was found and treated earlier this year; "blastocystis hominis". And that was negative as well.

My GI Dr had me do a colonoscopy and said that I have inflammation, but no polyps or abnormal growth or blockage. However, he took biopsy samples to test for what is causing the inflammation. So now I'm waiting for the biopsy results to come back. I'm leaning towards thinking that it maybe some kind of food intolerance. I have been trying to monitor what foods triggers it or makes it worst, but honestly I haven't been successful with that.

This whole thing sucks. I need help.

Ask to see a dietician who may be able to test for a possible food intolerance.

      Thanks Pippa.

I have contacted some dietitians in my area, but they don't accept insurance. They want out of pocket pay. Which is weird. My luck smh. I'm still looking to find any that will accept health insurance

I would have thought that they wouldn't accept you without insurance!  That is strange. I hope you find one though.
