Chronic pancreatitis and itching

Hi I have hereditary chronic pancreatitis for 28years. I'm now 43. But for the last 3 months I've had this itching in my thighs and now my feet. It comes and goes. Of course I looked it up and found the big "C" word, cancer. The itch is horrible but bearable compared to the pancreatitis pain. I'm due for my 6 year follow up but I'm terrified . Along with the itch my nausea has been out of controlled, I'm taking every type of nausea medications you can think of. My appetite is getting less and less. The pain is like usual because I have a pain pump put in many years ago with oral medications. The only thing that's giving me hope is that I'm not jaundice , does that mean anything? Thank you in advance for any help .

Hi Nenaypopi, fear of the unknown is dreadful and whilst I understand why you're feeling this way you can make every symptom worse with worry. Stress is one of the most harmful triggers and must be controlled.
Obviously you need that appointment quickly to calm your fears and find out what is actually going on. Treatment for anything is best started early so don't put off making the appointment.
Jaundice indicates liver issues so it's good to know that's not happening as well.
Itching can indicate something going on beneath the surface so the quicker you have some investigations the better. It mightn't be as nasty as you think and could be something completely unrelated.
I'm sorry I can't add anything to alleviate your fears but I don't think anyone can except your doctors. I hope all goes well, let us know. Deep, slow breaths.

Hi,
Sorry to hear that you haven't been well. Itching can drive you mad. I had it once, so I know what you mean. It eventually went away, and I'm not sure of it's cause in my case, but I do know that itching can be a side effect of some medicines. You might check out those you are taking and get your doctor to change them if necessary. I hope you get over it soon.

Thank you both for giving me the peace of mind. Tomorrow I have an appt for my 6 year follow up with the gastro specialist . Just asking for prayers every little bit helps.

Well I went to the gastroenterologist. He didn't have much of a bedside manner. I took out a list of things that were happening to me because I don't have a good memory . He said " oh noo I don't do list, I don't have time for that" so I took a deep breath and started explaining my history in pancreatitis. Wow wow wow is all I can say, he had nothing but smart remarks (but since I only have Medicaid I can only get certain doctors in my area). He had no clue of the symptoms I had. But to give him the benefit of the doubt he said he would run all the test ... First is the endoscopy that is scheduled on December 6th. Again please, needing prayers. Thank you in advance.

I'm so sorry you had a bad experience, I've noticed since I've become a public patient that I also encounter that attitude from time to time. Not often and even when I had top private insurance I'd come across that attitude sometimes. Some people are just mean.
Unfortunately when I receive that treatment I tend to respond in kind which is never helpful. I'm learning to bite my tongue.
As you said he at least ordered the tests be re-done. I'm moving on the 6th so won't forget your date and will have you in my thoughts between my anticipated panic about how the movers are handling my stuff.
