I moved to Colorado five years ago and I've had pleurisy every fall and winter of those five years. This last year I have had it all year long. There is a burning sensation as well as sharp, constant pain in my lungs, in my front and my back. I have muscle spasms in the muscles surrounding my lungs. As well as my lungs feeling bruised all the time. I feel as though I've been beat up. I take a lot of medicine and I am resting in bed a lot. I'm am beyond frustrated with this condition as I see no end in sight.

I moved up to Washington State 1.5 years ago and I've had lung issues since moving here. I have now had pleurisy going on over a month now as well. This is new. Seems to come with severe shortness of breath.

I'm actually from Louisiana. Are you from a humid place as well? I'm wondering if my body just can't handle the dry, cold air here. I know the air is dry in Colorado. Especially in the winter. I've found that my lung issues are much better when I sleep with a humidifier at night. I keep a hygrometer in my room and make sure the humidity stays at least 40 - 60%. I usually move the humidifier in my living room when I'm home. I have a hygrometer in there as well.

What's the humidity level in your home?

    Hi Angela,

did you know that rheumatoid arthritis is linked to pleuracy?

I have had pleuracy off and on for many years and was told that there is a correlation between both illnesses.

get tested for RA and make sure the test is in a hospital setting ( I wasn't told to do that and was turned away after waiting my turn for an hour)

The moment I feel it coming on I immediately go on a heating pad and take an anti inflammatory medicine with food. If I'm out and not able to do this I'm doomed and need narcotics.

always tuck in shirts for drafts....any breeze warm or cold can trigger

    it's very painful!!!!!

Thank you for your advice. I really appreciate it. It's been 17 months now in a row and it's been so painful and frustrating all at the same time. I have been tested for inflammatory diseases, not sure if that includes RA or not. I have to stay inside when it's cold or windy. I've recently been put on oxygen, as my lips and my hands turn blue. I still hope to have answers as my Primary doctor and my pulmonologist are at a loss.

      Hi again

the color of your hands is another illness but, cannot remember what illness that is. I know that you need to cover them at all times especially in the winter.

the RA is actually rheumatoid disease. The A in arthritis is a symptom of rheumatoid. Rheumatoid is a low immune difficiency disease affecting joints, eyes and possible organs. If not treated it gets worse . First sign is intense pain that makes pleuracy a cake walk. I actually cried to die until meds kicked in about 2 plus months

you might need to get tested for Lyme disease and other inflammatory illness as well. ( makes sure that the same blood test is tested again )

there are lots of inflammatory diseases out there. Use cold compresses as opposed to heat for taking the swelling down except for pleuracy. I've also bought a temperpedic bed. A five year payment plan but the best investment I've ever made. We have 2 extra long twins pushed together to make a king...and hubby made me a small temperpedic pillow for under my arms to relieve pain. Good luck with your dr. And make sure you get specialists. I fired my first and contemplating firing my second....prednisone, pot and narcotics helped take the edge. A low dose of Prednisone ( a steroid that it's is a quicker anti inflammatory med) my last resort because it thins the bones...not looking forward to osteoporosis.

take care! I hope I have helped
