Hi All, not been on here for a while but just to update I was diagnosed with an arthritic hip just over a year and a half ago and now my other hop is heading in the same direction.
I've had a steriod injection in the left hip that has helped but doesnt stop the sharp catching pain I get now and again.
On top of that I had a bout of food posioning recently but when I recovered I started fetting joint pain in my hands, feet, ankles neck etc.
I am flipping out about this and so worried how bad it will become.
Ive been doctors and my bloods are ok but all he has advised is anti inflam and painkillers.
Shouldn i be pushing to see a specalist? Looking online they say it is better to catch it early on but the doctor didnt seem concerned at all or even examine me!
Tried talking to my partner but dont think she is excepting that I have any issues and tells me to go ba k to the doctors as they must have got it wrong.
Really not feeling the best at moment and low is an understatement.

Hi Scott,
If you are in alot of pain and it is affecting your daily life, then you should push to see a specialist. Has the GP had an MRI scan done, Xrays dont show the full picture. Have you been offered Physio? A Surgeon would not replace your hip until it is that bad. If you have reacted to a bout of food poisioning with the joints becoming painful then a rheumatologist may be the route to go down. My brother developed something called Righter's diesease following samonella food poisiinig some years ago, and he gets arthritis in his eye and knees.
Try to stop flipping out and talk to your doctor about your concerns or if you do not think you can, see another GP in the practice. We hippies are here for you.

Dear Scott,
?My own GP would not refer me either, so I went to see another in the same practice who referred me to see the Consultant. Luckily our practice is a training practice so we have lots of young Dr's who will listen.
?Thank fully I am now recovering from R&L thr in August and that some one did listen to me.

I wouldn't worry to much as you have just had a bout of food poisoning and this can leave you with a post bug bout of ache's and pains, bloods will show inflammation if its anything like RA etc, I have this myself so know the processes to check for it, you need to get good nourishment and possibly take some added vits probably vitamin D as food poisoning depletes the system and vitamin D deficiency can cause bone and muscle pain, I was told this by my rheumatologists.
You say to catch it early but don't refer to what you think it is? How old are you and do you keep active

Hi i'm 43. Will speak again to a different doctor and hopefully will get a bit more support.
I thought i had a sudden onset of arthritis but like u said it could be related to my food poisioning.
The joint pain has been getting gradully worse and im starting to panic a bit.

How old are you ? Steroid injections can last a while ... Mine was 8 months but they wear off . My surgeon said if it works it is a definite signifiers of OA of the hip . Here in Wales they were more than happy to give me a new hip as it was just delaying the inevitable . They can deteriorate quite quickly too . Your treatment is appalling and questionable . You need BOTH hips X rayed to see what the state of play is . I believe you can have this done privately with docs referral . Or try to insist with your doctor or ask for another doctor . You have nothing to go on until you know the state of your hips . Then you can make choices but X Ray first option . X

Sounds like you need an x-ray of your other hip to see what's going on with that joint. An x-ray will tell the tale about the state of the cartilage between the cup and ball of the femur, and whether or not a hip replacement is recommended.

I agree with you that a specialist either a rhumy or a THR specialist would be a good start.
you can feel better and don't need to suffer . Don't let it go to long it can become complicated depending on your diagnosis.

That sounds right Scott.Might look at things to improve immune system like Lyopsheric Vit C just because it's so good for your immune system. There is also antionflamatory diet like with rheumatoid arthritis. It depends on what you can do
