It is possible, I have heard that it is better to take a different antibiotic following an infection, however in my case there is only one that I could potentionally take for UTI as the others cause reactions......if you can take a different one it might be better.

Hi, if you don't feel its working this time and still have various symptoms it may be best to go back to your GP to see if you can try something else. Although it suggests that one, sometimes it just doesn't work for everyone. Good luck.

I'm allergic to Nitrofurantoin - ghastly stuff for me. The only one that I can take is Cefalexin and normally Nitrofurantoin and Cefalexin are the ones used for E-Coli infection. Is that the only option they gave you? Don't take ciprofloxacin if you can avoid it.

Well I have tried it twice and as I recall I felt ghastly and I passed out on the carpet! Can't say more, as it was a while ago. I am allergic to most antibiotics now. If your culture says you can take the other two antibiotics, I would have thought it better to give you one of those rather than Nitro again. My recurrent infection was always E-Coli (pretty sure they gave it to me in hospital when I had a sigmoidoscopy). Good luck.

    Hi there,

That is a shame the Nitro doesn't seem to be working. My urologist instructed me to take another urine sample after finishing each course of antibiotics to see if they had cleared the infection up, maybe you could try doing the same as it may not be an infection that's causing the symptoms. that's what we discovered with me.

However, when I actually WAS infected the antibiotic that worked best for me was Augmentin (a combo of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid). If your bacteria is sensitive to it you should ask to try it.

Good luck , I know how dreadful these things are
