Right tonsil still swollen coming up to a year

Hi
In January just gone I suffered from my first ever tonsillitis which turned into a quincy, ended up in hospital for ten days in and out because antibiotics wouldn't work, I literally couldn't even carry out a swallowing motion (let's just say I went through a mountain of tissues), the pain subsided after a few days but the right tonsil never went back to normal (still covers half the back of my throat). I was told that I could only have them removed if I got four more bouts of tonsillitis or another quincy, which a couple of weeks later I did but the damn thing burst (pus blood the lot) before the gp appointment so he told me not to worry and keep an eye on it, still to this day half my throat is taken up by this monster, today after waking up for work my glands are up again on the right side and swallowing is a pain in the butt, my line of work I have to talk all the time and I'm really surprised I managed till the end of today, any how after that whole life story above I was wondering what I could do, through my work I have private health care, can I use this to apply to have my tonsils out or is this not an option on private health care?... And also another query I have a wisdom tooth on the same side as the problem tonsil which plays up occasionally aswell could this be causing the tonsils problem?
Many thanks in advance

Went back to gp when I first realised the tonsil wasn't going back to normal, he just prescribed antibiotics again, which didn't work the first time round, on and off now since Jan 2016 I get a really sore throat on the side the tonsil is still swollen, tonight being one of those times, tonight it has literally taken up half the back of my throat again and can feel the obstruction when trying to breath, I don't know if this has anything to do with it but the past week my gums have been really sore kind of like sensitive teeth sensation before the tonsil starts to hurt again, I hate harassing my gp to get them taken out but it is becoming a pain in my life I have private health care through my job could I go this route?

Hey ! So i have had a different experience with mine. Mine started about 9 months ago but could have been longer as thats only when i first noticed it. My lymph nodes on my neck came up out of no where and it was soooo painful, i had a look and saw my left tonsil was swollen and looked pretty gross. around the same time i had alot of other health issues going on that were alot worse than my tonsils so it was kind of put of i suppose for a while until i got it looked at by my GP late november early december last year he ended up giving my 3 different antibiotics and none of them worked so he referred me to an ENT specialist and i saw him on Monday and i booked the surgery to have them removed next Wednesday. My ENT said because its been there so long he said i should take them out so i would just ask for an ENT referal and im sure they will say to take them out. Also i have my wisdom teeth coming through also and i don't think it would be the reason the tonsils are playing up i mean it doesnt help thats for sure but i don't it wold have anything to do with that
Hope you get some answers soon
