17 yr old w/ constant Neck & Back pain - scoliosis

I'm 17 and when I went to 7th grade they told me I had scoliosis. I didn't have much pain then only when carried my school bag and stuff but last year 2015 it got more worst then ever. My spine is on 35 degrees & I have pain all the time from the side of where my scoliosis goes in, I can't sit for to long I can't stand for to long and I can't barley lay down for too long mostly I wake up in the middle of the night beacuse I can't breath well and my rib hurts and it hurts so bad on the whole back all the way up too my neck and arms and I get this major headache. And a couple months ago I got problems with my kidney on that side too It got inflameted but they didnt know why and they suspected it was the scoliosis beacuse it was not anything else. I've been subcribed aspirin only and they don't help... I don't want to live off pills either. I don't know what to do anymore I can't image what this will be like when I get older. My doctor says that It can't be possible to have that pain with "only" 35 degree. I'm so fustraded. I try my best to workout and keep my body strong anyways and I do pilates and yoga a lot but i'm moslty so tierd because I can't sleep beacuse of the pain so I barley do that anymore. Can someone please help me out here what should I do? sad

I am so very sorry...big, warm hug.

What country do you live in?

I am biting my tongue, how dare a ohysician te anyone that 35 degrees is not enough for pain! I would like to bend that physician!

But, better yet...you need a new general practitioner and a new spinal orthopedic.

You may benefit from a brace. That decision is above my pay grade.

I admire you...you are a survivor...Pilates and yoga, good for you.

I do not like the aspirin. At 11 I developed JRA and blew my stomach out on aspirin. Perhaps you will discuss acetaminophen 500 mg with your physician. Never take acetaminophen dosed closer than six hours. This is to protect your liver. And read labels because many medications contain acetaminophen and you must dose al acetaminophen no closer than six hours.

In the USA, 18 is majority...you become responsible for yourself. You need to consider health insurance unless you are going to college in which case your parents can carry you on their policy.

Look for the very best physicians you can travel to...look for the most esteemed university with a medical school with an associated hospital and clinic. They will be the most up to date. You will be treated by professors. Read the curriculum vitae which tells you all about the physician. Google Dr. David Weinstein, Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA...The Center For Orthopaedic Excellence...read his bio...impressive. This is the level physician you want to take care of you.

One more thing...somebody had to graduate at the bottom of the class...

    hugs

Thank you so much for taking your time to help me! I live in Sweden and I don't go to school but I do work because I want to travel the world but this is just too much for me sad Like I can't travel if I have this kind of pain all the time you know? And I want to do so many things but sometimes I loose all hope because it hurts so bad. I've been thinking about getting a chiropractor maybe and see if that helps a little but yeah

no chiropractor....scoliosis needs a spinal orthopedic.

This is from The National Scoliosis Foundation...

      quote

For more than seventeen years, bracing has been one of the most important issues of the National Scoliosis Foundation. Thus, we were elated with the results of recent findings of Dr. Alf L. Nachemson, an orthopedic surgeon and scoliosis specialist, who practices at Sahlgren Hospital, Gothenberg Sweden.

If I were you and I lived in Sweden, this is who I would want to treat my scoliosis.

      Happy trails!

      warm hug
