Thoracic Tingling Pressure Sensations But No Pain - Hernia?

Hi,

I've been having some funny sensations in the middle of my back I would guess the T5, T6 area, My back tingles around the same area which is just under the shoulderblade to the left which is a bit worrying, tingling is problay not the best way to describe it, its feels more like someone pushing thier thumb into my back with some pressure but does also tingle from time to time,  what could this be? There is no pain just these weird sensations.

A few years ago if not longer i was getting pain/sensations in my right leg but have never got to the bottom of what the problem is so I've just been living with it but now I'm getting the additional symptoms which id like to discuss and i think they could be related.

So a few years ago i started getting pain in my right thigh when ever tried any weight bearing activities like running for example, the pain would be an intense burning pain above the right knee up to the groin area, as time went on the heat sensations became more and more frequent, I could now get the the heat sensations just be leaning backwards in a certain position like leaning back to kick a ball so I went to the doctor and he sent me off to get a CT Scan of my lumbar spine, The results showed a pinched nerve in my back. I followed this up with my doctor who sent me to physio for around a month. The physio said that the pinched nerve location in the back should not give me the pain in the location where I'm getting the pain in my leg, we were able to reproduce the sensation by twisting me in certain positions but nothing really helped to get rid of it, my physio thought the sensations were coming from the femoral nerve and gave me some exercises to do to try and loosen this up but in the end with no joy i got referred back to my doctor. The doctor sent me for another CT Scan on my lumber region, the results this time no pinched nerve but inflammation in the spine, I went back to the doctor who has refereed me to a pain specialist to possibly get some cortisone injections to reduce the inflammation. I saw my doctor again who prescribed me Amitriptylne to block some of the sensations and i spoke to him about vitamin b deficiency so he sent me for blood tests to test by b levels as well as other stuff including my glucose which all came back fine.

So now i have been to the pain specialist twice, the first time he upped my dose of amitriptyline from 2 x 10mg tables per day to 13 over the next few weeks which proper knocked me out but didnt help,  so on my follow up appointment last week I explained that i no longer just had leg sensations now i was getting weird sensations in the thoracic reigon so he has arranged for me to have an MRI of the thoracic & lumber reigons.

Does this sound like a thoracic hernia but with zero pain?

What else could this be?

Is thier anyone out there with the same symptoms?

Any other advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, David

I am sorry to hear of the problems you are having.  I think an MRI scan should possibly be done as it shows more information that a CT scan.  I hope you get answers soon.  x

Thanks, I'm quite worried what it could be and everything is taking such a long time to get to the next step. Hopefully I'll get my MRI appointment through soon.

You may have slipped a disc, the disc can heal, and be slipped again.

I would press my physician for the answer as to the cause.

Otherwise treatment is solving symptoms rather than solving the cause of the symptoms.

    Good evening all,

im still waiting for my appointment for my MRI scan, hopefully it will come soon then I'll get nearer to an answer on what this could be. I then have a follow up appointment with the pain clinic specialist on the 8/2/17 to discuss the results.

Im quite worried about what this is, the sensations are so weird. As I said in my previous post the weirdest feeling is a feeling of someone pushing their thumb into my back with tingling.

I thought most thoracic hernias also included pain so maybe this is not a hernia but what else could it be? MS ? Possible but I have no weekness, sight issues or clumsiness, Spine Tumour? Doubt it, they are quite rare and cause pain usually, I just don't know.

i know most of you guys can't help me in diagnosing the problem, I will have to wait for the MRI for that but I just wanted to chat to someone about it as I'm feeling quite low at the moment and feeling sorry for myself.

speak to you all again soon.
