The worry of waiting...

Hi smile First time here, seeking your wisdom and knowledge.

I've found out a week ago I have 5 pathological cysts ,3 in one ovary, and 2 in the other, totalling the size f a medium grapefruit.

The Gyno did a intervaginal ultrasound 'That's strange...' Showed me on the screen the round looking cysts within the sound ovary walls. He said I would need an operation to remove both ovariessad

I chose for now to do nothing until the next reviewing 5 weeks time.

I really wish he had left me with more info, just worry and waiting on a blood test which my go will hopefully decipher next week along with a name for the 'Tombowlers' as I've nicknamed them.

Gosh,I didn't even know if it was dangerous to do gardening!

I'm fit ,47yrs and usually spot on with a 26day cycle.Thank God my body alerted me to something unusual going on.

I'd love any advice and input dear ladies.Ireally want to save my ovaries and don't like the idea of loosing time if he cysts could be growing. Thanks in advance.

    Fully understand

and yes, surgery seems the only option BUT I would 'shop' around for a very specialised surgeon in this field,

usually ovary saving is first choice for any surgeon, but depends on experience if manually/technically able. Having said so, depends also on the situation they find during operation if even the best surgeon can save the ovaries or not. There is hope though. Your gyn who did ultrasound is not a surgeon, or is he?

You usually would be assessed by operating surgeon given imaging and he/she can let you know, how likely ovary saving was, but no imaging can really 100% predict the internal findings.

There is hope to at least leave one ovary rest in for your hormone function.

If the first surgeon you see says 'both ovaries need to be removed', ask for as to why not even one, because so difficult to remove off ovary?, the look so suspicious or why. Then see another surgeon asap (or make an appointment already with another surgeon, ask around in your area, go with existing ultrasound report for a second opinion, you are entitled to have your reports, even pictures!)

Different surgeons have different approaches and skills. Get the best one possible to feel confident there was no other choice in case both really had to be removed.

    All the best!

Hi Sanya, thankyou for your reply. The Gyno is also a surgeon,I received the test results via my GP the other day and I'm so relieved that the blood tests were normal...and the Cysts reported as Simple !The Dr said they were unusual in that they usually occur in a youger woman than of some one my age so now it's wait and watch.

I'm trying natural remedies and eating healthily. My period came back .I'm praying more cysts don't grow during this cycle.I must remember to get hold of reports and pictures

      Good luck

and that they may rupture and disappear on their own

      and no new ones forming!

Won't be much possible to do about existing cysts actively,

but about new cysts forming to that size as far as I know.

So yes, all the best and may they disappear in thin air within next few months and prove it when checked again via ultrasound.

You are in the loop for check ups, so that's good.

      Nothing can go unmonitored.

      All the best!!

And if they needed to go since playing havoc on ovary even if simple, but plain to size and persistence, please shop around for the best experienced surgeon to do best for draining or removing of cysts without removing healthy ovary tissue.

      Take good care!

      Hello Sanya,

It has been very interesting learning about cysts and perimenopause through this site,I'm very grateful.

I had one normal period and ovulated then this last cycle missed a period

..body tried and spotted about the right time.I wish it could've,but I guess the cysts are interfering somehow?

Next Monday I will find out if anything has changed...I'm trying not to worry about it too much rolleyes

I went to the chiropractor yesterday and he found lower back and pelvis were out.I kind of wish I had had regular adjustments since the discovery of cysts to help with blood flow, nerves and lymphatic system.

Any ideas helping a delayed period?

Well,I'll give a brief update and won't go into detail of what home remedies I took.Hormones feel much more balanced and yesterday's ultrasound brought good news in that the cysts have reduced in size and two have gone..I know I'll have to really keep working at the diet and keeping away from passive smoking etc.

      Very good!

Functional cysts may be given time to just go/drain/rupture on their own.

If you found a way to reduce the formation of new big ones (as small ones are normal), the better! Awesome.

The findings really need to be much more sinister before talking of 'removing' ovaries, those docs rolleyes

You did well, happy and glad to hear! And hope you continue to improve! And if something was up (forbid that thought), you are in the check loop. There are also MRIs and other imaging to make sure if any concern of matter inside the cyst was of concern. So far seems good!

      Thumbs up!

      All the best!

      Ta for update!!!
