Dermoid Ovarian Cyst but i'm so confused....

Posted , 5 users are following.

Because I read over and over that it shouldn't be there and so I should get it removed but according to my doctors they don't see it being a problem.

?Basically I have been in discomfort for about 5 months now and on 3 occasions in such pain that I end up in bed with a hot water bottle as hot as I can tolerate just to try and ease the pain. I nearly went to A&E on the last occasion, I was too scared to go at night with no babysitters so I just pushed through it.

?I was told in 2010 I had a cyst during a normal pregnancy scan, nothing more metioned to me and so I thought it had gone, especially when during 2015 and my 2nd child it was never picked up again.

?Skip forward to 5 months ago and constant period pain I had to go speak to the docs and after several visits, an ultrasound showed the cyst was still there and it had grown, not much, I mean in 2010 it was 3cm's and in 2015 nearly 5.

?The pain is so dull and so annoying, its not sharp, doesn't stop me in my tracks or suddenly come on, instead its just always there! A dull horrid sensation always on my lower right side and from the moment I wake up until the moment I finally fall asleep.

?My doc's say as its small its unlikely to be the cause of my pain but I can't do anything! I tried to reach for something before and I could feel a pain in my right side straight away, What's the truth, where do I go from here??? I'm so confused sad

Please get another doctor .I went through the same thing my first gynecologist, fired him then found an amazing female doc and she had me in surgery within a month . She found multiple cysts in my left ovary and a small spot of endometriosis which she took care of along with removing my left ovary. Any doctor that minimizes a patients pain can't be trusted.

Thanks for your reply, i've actually seen 2 different docs and both say the cyst is a 'red herring'. The 2nd one however did refer me urgently to see a gyno and on Dec 30th I met with him and straight away he said it can be removed if it's causing you pain. He also said i'd have to lose my right ovary most likely, he seemed more worried about that as yo him i'm only 38, my family is 100% complete though and I was happy for him to be concerned. He has to write to my doc now though, don't know why but i'm scared they will somehow talk him out of it.

First of all, 'small' doesn't mean it can't hurt like crazy! I am going through something similar at the moment with pains in my joints. My doctor can tell me what it is NOT but can't tell me what it is!

Get back to your doctor and say 'OK so it's not the cyst causing me so much pain - so WHAT THE HXXL IS IT?' Go get 'em girl and take no cxxp!

Hi there and thanks for your reply. Funny you say that because i'm doing that excat thing on wed's when I have an appoint with this doc previously booked before the mri results were given to me over the phone. I'm going to go into that appoint and say, ok, you think the cyst is a red herring so what now...What do YOU suggest we do next!!!!

He may suggest you do nothing! Ask to see the MRI - he should have it on his computer, and ask him to explain it. If he doesn't know, then ask to be refered to someone who can.

I've got the mri results so I will be taking them with me at my next gyno appoint which I really hope to be soon smile

Are you having joint pain due to cyst? I was told I have a dermoid cyst that's been causing the usual symptoms pain on left side bleeding etc but since all this iv had awful joint pain some days to the point where I'm taking tramadol and the doc refuses to believe it's related to the cyst but I swear it is as when my bleeding pain down side is worse on certain days so is my joint pain? Do you have the same thing?

Yes yes yes! For me it can be as high as my belly button to as low as my hip but always in the right, the same side as my cyst.

I'm happy to believe it may not be the cyst if that's what the docs think but if not what the hell is it!

I have to believe it's the cyst for now wink

Ask to be referred to a gynae who specialises in ovarian cysts. If it's causing pain they will no doubt remove it, probably might need partial oophrectomy if not the whole ovary. This happened to my grandaughter, she was only young, early 20's and is fine now. Your GP can't dissuade the consultant surgeon not to do anything. It's yours and his/her choice not the GP's. Best wishes. x rolleyes

No it's not down to the cyst, but I think they are both related to wonky hormones.

I have been just waiting to be seen I got referred in November and appointment isn't until February 2nd!! That was the first available appointment as waiting list is so long!! I will be glad to have it removed

Yes i've met with 1 gyno, he seemed more than happy to remove the cyst which is part of why i'm so confused, I mean why would 2 doc's make it sound like i'm being silly to think its the cyst causing any pain when no other tests have found anything and the pain is exactly where the cyst is!

The gyno said i'd probably have to lose the ovary, i've had 2 children and plan on having no more so fertility isn't an issue with me, i'd better do some research on the effect (if any) of loosing one menstrual cycle, I have bad enough mood swings as it is........Poor hubby sad

It seems so long to wait for things doesn't it! Fortunately for me mine was an 'urgent referral', however it still took 2 weeks for an appoint to come through and that was in another 2 weeks so around 4 weeks in total, perhaps with Xmas and New Year yours is quite a quick referral after all?

Bad day yesterday and I had so much to do that I had to just keeo on going.

Ended up taking the full allowance of co-codamol yesterday which always makes me sleepy but at least takes the edge off.

I had period pain from the moment I woke with almost hip pain also, i'm sure the pain is starting to radiate down my hip into my leg, luckily I have this appoint on wed's and I plan on saying something along the lines of

(Based on the fact that this doctor thinks the cyst is a red-herring)

"We discussed the results of mr MRI over the phone last week and YOU mentioned to me that abdominal/gallstones etc could be checked if i'd of had the dye during the MRI, would it not be sensible therefore to have another test to rule out anything in that area, and if the results are clear that surely 100% it has to be my cyst causing the pain?"

Surely then she has 2 choices, take me seriously and go foward with the cyst removal (I have no idea what happens seeing as i've already seen the gyno)

OR, she will continue her investigations.

I want to get on with my life, I want to start running again, exercising in general.(I'm gaining weight slowly and extremely bloated) I only reached for something high up the other day and the pulling inside took my breath away!
