3yrs ago I was playing football on a team, I was 14 at the time; When I started running backward when I landed on my right ankle and fell. As soon as I got up I felt tremendous pain, unbearable pain whereas I couldn't even feel the joint on my ankle or walk on it. My coaches had to carry me to the locker room then my mom came to pick me up. When I got home I iced and waited it out. It was swollen like a balloon but I refused to go to the doctor which was the biggest mistake because I thought it would heal on its own. 2 Weeks later I was ready to walk again. I still felt pain on the bottom of my foot, the inside, sometimes the back and the outside. 3 yrs later in the summer my ankle started to hurt and my knees started to feel weakened. Sometimes I feel a string of pain up the back of my right leg. There's sometimes numbness in my ankle, it heats up, swells up when I do exercise, and now I can't play any sports or even run. I've been to a Podiatrist which couldn't do anything, an Orthopedic surgeon which he diagnosed me with a Stress fracture, Achilles injury, and plantar fasciitis. I felt like that was the problem because when I searched up the symptoms I felt the exact pain and areas of the pain. Sadly, none of that showed up on the MRI which was weird. He said it might be a lower back issue but nothing showed on the MRI again for the lower back. Now he's sending me to a pain management specialist. Also, I've tried, physical therapy for 25 sessions, they relieve pain, but after a day or two, it goes back to normal. My knees have this awkward bend, and they feel weakened, my ankle cracks continuously. Every time I move around the joints of my ankles they crack or make this popping noise(both right and left ankle).
Sorry guys for writing so much, its just that I've been really depressed lately and don't know what to do. It's hard not being able to travel to further distances. I struggle to get to school sometimes because of the pain. I can't play any sports or run. I've taken 2 MRI's: one for the ankle and lower back, and 2 x-rays, all showed negative. Thank You all for your advice in advance, God Bless.

Hi Roman's 8:18,
Can you get another exray and help from a different foot and ankle orthopedic sports specialist? Another look deems necessary. You are young and you need to be able to properly and comfortably walk. My ankle and foot problems stem from sports injuries in high school that were ignored, like yours. I have a tried ankle arthrodesis (fusions) and a big toe fusion and ligament repair with eleven pins and a toe plate. And the other foot has a big toe implant. I was running on it, until that surgery on June 15, 2016. An orthopedic ankle foot specialist finally gave me the help needed. He was my third orthopedic doctor that I saw. Prayers your way.

Should I still go see the Pain Management specialist that my orthopedic surgeon referred me too?

Hi ! I'm very sorry to hear all this. My late father when he was younger was playing football and a similar thing happened to him and likewise didn't see a doctor. Fast forward a few years and he suffered tremendous pain. He had in fact broken it. He ended up having a fusion in his ankle which after time healed and he had little trouble with it and walked without a limp. I'm no doctor but I bet you anything you had a broken ankle. I would not rest until you get it fixed. Keep searching for answers. I shattered my ankle 17 months ago with a dislocation and I knew without a doubt it was busted. I wish you all the best.

Hi so sorry you have so much pain. I would do both, get a second opinion from an orthopedic surgeon and go to the pain management specialist. I found that my pain management doctor not only treated my pain for my back and ankle, but was able to order many tests to aid in my treatment. I wish you well & I hope you find some relief.

Thank you Hotmess45,
What was the problem with your ankle and back? And how was he able to treat it? Was your pain seen on MRI's or X-rays?
