My daughter went to treatment and has been clean for 8 months now. She lives with us. My grandson is totally out of control and nothing seems to work. We are all mentally exhausted and stressed and at our wts end not knowing what to do. He consumes every bit of energy and time. I love him so dearly and want whats best for him. I am beginning to think he needs to see a specialist but really dont know where to begin.

    Hello there

Your grandson has witnessed a lot and this must have created a deep impact on his mind.Children need a strong bond with their caregiver's for shaping up their personality and any deviations for whatever reason will hamper their growth .You need to work in developing his expression which can come through drawing or any other artistic forms even learning a musical instrument helps in changing mood and behaviour. At the same time make a healthy living atmosphere at home for him .Lastly you can take help of a Psychologist to help you further.

    Take care

Look into behavioral health centers in your area.  They can evaluate your grandson and make recommendations for services that can help with the problem behaviors and emotional issues.  He has been through a lot for such a young person and it would be surprising to me if he didn't have any behavioral issues.  I hope you are able to find some help for your grandson and your family.

I took my daughter to play therapy when her brother passed away. It didn't really work for her, but being in an environment where he can play with a licensed therapist who can observe him as well isn't a bad start. You can even ask to go in the first couple sessions if your uncomfortable leaving him alone with a stranger. From there the therapist can lead you where you need to go. Also, was your daughter using heavy narcotics during the time she was pregnant with him? This may also be an medical issue he is dealing with because of that. If you're located in the Houston area Wellsource is a great group and Lisa is an awesome therapist.

Hello Heather! I am curious as to what symptoms your grandson actually has. How does he act? I am concerned that my nephew may have some sort of disorder. He is overly active. He yells at everyone especially adults, caonstanly talks but can not understand over maybe 75% of what he says. He is always throwing fits, hitting others, can nto sit still for the life if him. Is he just spoiled and terrible? Or is he austistic? Im not sure and would like some advice. Thnks

Hii heather... your grandson must be gone through a very bad time as he is just 4 and his parents are careless and drug addicts. At this age children needs proper care and love of their parents. As you said he is totally out of control this must be because of his parent's ignorance towards him. Now you are the only one who is taken care of him, you need to give him proper attention, keep eyes on his diet, send him to a play school so that he get chance to interact with other children, notice the things irritates him and try to find out the solution otherwise consult to a doctor regarding this. Take care of your grandson.
