Bad joint effusion and bakers cyst post ok 8 months ago.

Hello to all, I have had several knee surgeries in the past year. Patella femoral realignment , lateral bands cut . April 2016 I had a knee cap replacement on left knee. I been having problems right off the get go. I have had numerous conversations here with all these issues. I have swelling, pain, popping, snapping and my legs are on fire once Iay down. I rarely get a good nights sleep. Pain keeps me up all hours of the night. I been complaining to my Dr through out this journey. My knee gives out on me and down I go. I have injured my shoulder and collar bone in the process. No Mri can be performed due to the metal. I have had a bakers cyst for quite some time and its continuing to get bigger. I woke up this morning and my balance and legs were in pain as usual. I didn't think to much about it. I started noticing my baker cyst was hurting really bad and it seemed bigger. I took pain medicine and didn't get any relief. Then I noticed my knee was swelled 3 times bigger as other knee. So I went to e.r. The pain was awful. I couldn't bend it or bear weight. The ultrasound showed arthritis, fluid everywhere and the bakers cyst measured 4.5 X 1.6 X 3.5. The hospital did blood work and everything was fine. They would not drain it in spite of the pain. Told me to call ortho first thing tomorrow morning. My ortho says I'm too young for a tkr and believes my kneecap replacement was a failure. I read my E.R report and its says I'm not compliant with not wearing crutches. First of all My shoulder is messed up,my right knee is messed up and needs surgery, plus the left leg is in bad shape . To top that off I pulled my Achilles tendon in my right calf. How are you suppose To put weight on 2 bad legs and a messed up shoulder and collar bone? It's very painful to say the least. I need some serious help and need some guidance of what needs to be done. I feel like I'm getting the run around and xrays look good, so he doesn't think theres much left to do. Is it normal to fall, severe joint effusions, pain interupted sleep and injuries due to falling? Is there something wrong with this picture? Im tired of it all and sbout lose my mind. My pain dr wont even touch this leg. That is pretty bad to say. Any help would be awesome. Thanks, Tina

Bakers cyst should be aspirated before it ruptures!that has happened to me,pain is awful in calf, turns into a rock!

Hi james, I thought they would drain it too? The ultrasound lady told me yesterday that the bakers cyst was the least of my worries. I know it hurts back there and the more weight that's out on that leg the more that thing hurts. So they want me in a wheelchair to give my legs and arms a break. I will see him on Wednesday, so hopefully he will do something about it then. They are talking about injections. THANK YOU,Tina

    Hi tina,

I feel so bad for you. that is so horrible that the doctors can not fix you the right way. I can only imagine the pain. my tkr was last april and i still have alot of pain in it and i fall all the time. i can not stand the pain and like you said the pain meds do not even touch the pain. i had my other knee done last dec 1st and a week and a half before that i went to the er they did not know what was wrong with me i was admitted had so many tests mri cat scan ultra sounds and so many more. in the third day the surgeon came in and said i am taking out your gaul bladder tomorrow morning. i went home on the 4th day. i feel like i am falling apart. my side where my gb was is in pain all the time and it goes around to my back. while i was having all those tests in the er they found so many more things wrong i have to see a gyn specialist as i have a cyst on my overery and it is getting bigger and they were worried it may be benigh. i am tired of all these surgerys i can not eat any thing but fat free and i am losing weight and feel sick all the time. i have so many appt i do not know if i am coming or going.

it sounds awful for what they are putting you through at a young age. there has to be someone that can help you. if they do not fix you now you will have alot more problems in the future sorry to say. I wonder who you could go to and ask them to help you sort all this out. i feel for you. good luck. Terry

Terry, wow honey you are going through alot. It's taking its turns on you one way or the other. When i had my gallbladder removed I was having that very same issue. Pain on the right side that would radiate to my back and bent over in pain. I thought it was the food I was eating. I was having alot of bathroom visits. They didn't bother to tell me it would get worse after I would eat. So I was scared to eat. Accidentally they ran across my problem. I had a cyst on my ovary and sphinx fluid and blood clots in my fallopian tube. So emergency surgery to take that out. It was awful. I didn't want surgery but had no option because it could rupture and things would be really bad. I called my Drs office this morning and they want me in a wheelchair. My ortho Dr understands the crutches deal and its nearly impossible. I don't know what the e.r was thinking? I'm gonna do some research on pvns. Oldfatguy was telling me about. They are calling my issues CRPS. They cant verify that because my pain dr wont do the blocks. So we don't know at this time. It's not common in lower extremeties. The swelling has gone down a little which is making it more tolerable for now. Hopefully it just stays away. The pain is already awful enough. I hope you find some answers soon and the ob Dr will find out something soon. Thanks so much for your time. Thanks,Tina

      Hi Tina,

I am just getting in from a long day, I met the gyn specialist and gave her the disk and all my paper work. I was there for ever. she told me that since

the cyst on my overie got bigger and the wall is thicken what ever that means. She told me that she is going to talk to the other doctor and get back to me this week and she wanted to make sure she had my right number so she would get me. there was someone there training. so they had my have a whole physical. what ever she did she would have the other lady do it also. i had a hystormy i cant spell that years ago so they only kept one overy so when i go through menapause. she said they are most likey going to want to operate and remove it all. i am tired of surgerys. appts. xrays. and so much more. they said at my age they want to make sure it is not benign. my stupid knee is killing me. when the ortho did my other knee i have a cyst behind where he could not get to it so he drained some of it i think that is what he told me

This is awful what you are going through. and now you are in a wheel chair. does it ever end? i have never had any thing happen to me so many things all at once. the girl taken my blood could not find my vein and kept sticking me I said please get someone else she said i will get it this time she did not. you should see my arm. i am glad to be home and it is snowing out and i have to drive an hour from my house to another appt in the am for them to teach me how to tape my knee. then the next day i have my reg doctor to see. Tina, was it a long time before you could eat regular food again. i am so tired of my stomache. I hope they take care of you when you go back. this is crazy they do not know what they are doing so many tests. good luck.

Terry, I had the same scenario as you with the hysterectomy and kept one ovary for my menopause and hormones. Unfortunately that had to come out immediately because the cyst and blood clot. After that surgery I felt like I was going crazy. I was mean, irritable, grouchy and mood swings out of this world. One minute I love you and the next I was ready to bite someone. Little did I know while going through menopause I still needed hormones. I hadnt got any hormones for quite some time and that's why I was acting crazy. Before surgery they recommend taking stuff for bone health. Menopause causes brittle bones. So not long after that I became hypercalcemic. Too much calcium. I haven't taken nothing for years for my bones. I still run a little elevated on calcium levels. As far as the gallbladder. I had issues with fried foods, fast food and veggies. I ate alot of ramen noodles and mashed potatoes and food that would stick with me. It's a trial and error test. You will find what works and what to stay away from. I love salad and vegetables. Sometimes I do ok and sometimes I dont. I lost alot of weight after that surgery. I was in the toilet all the time and I just got to the point where if I ate I couldn't leave the house so I wouldn't eat. That's not healthy. Good luck this week and keep me updated.

      Hi TIna,

You are decribing me, I have been horrible and mean and moody and not getting along with my sisters and niece. everything bothers me. the doctor who tried to reach way up in side me to see if she could feel the cyst but could not find it. she was so concerned with being able to get in touch with me and i said i will be back her wens to see my regular doctor. she said oh that will be good. as she was talking about surgery. they will not cut me open will they. when i had my hysterectomy they cut me straight across that was over 20 years ago. I do what you do i do not want to leave the house as i run to the bathroom so much. i am losing weight i am afraid to eat. i see the nutrisionist soon.  so does that mean i need to be taken estrogen or something. i can not believe you decribed me to the point. it is so weird. this thing wont rupture will it. i do not want to have anymore surgerys. and not now. my best friends father is dying with hospice right now and i need to be there for her. i have to go try to sleep and leave early in am to go to the appt for them to tape my knee it has been killing me but i do not like taking pain meds only if i really can not stand it. i hope you are alright. Terry, If they end up taking your ovary out ,please ask Dr about hormones. There are risk factors if you smoke, high blood pressure and so on. I'm sorry about your friends dad. That is terrible to go through. She is lucky to have a friend like you. I believe you can accomplish just about anything you put your mind to. It's harder with getting hit by everything you are going through. Often depression can really get you down and anxiety can do a number on its own. Stress, pain and lifestyle sometimes makes these things exacerbate. I been there for a minute. I didn't things could get worse and boy was I wrong about that. Do your research, look at the pros and cons of everything and most importantly don't let everything get you down. It's hard to say and do it. I'm always here and this is best site to turn to for answers, guidance and understanding you are not alone. Famil y, friends and Drs don't always understand. So the constant nagging and complaining crawls under their skin. So you stay silent and bitter to everyone. Everyone is enjoying life, making plans and you feel.like your dying on the inside and out and nobody cares. I do, and I believe so does everyone else.Much love to you and a big hug to keep pushing through.

Tina....I know its real long shot but ask your ortho if there is an outside chance this might be PVNS. PVNS is a rare tumor that comes in 2 varieties....either a lump or cyst. OR...discussed and systematicallyveats away as it attaches to the soft tissue, then ruptures and bleeds. I'm wondering if they did a biopsy when they did the kneecap work. I've been battling this disease for almost 15 years and its eaten up.my knee, my drive and almost my very soul....little by little. Piece by piece. Sometimes the pain and depression are almost more than I can handle but the next day I'm back going again. PVNS is hard to evaluate but you might be one of the 1 in 2 million.

Hi, They are calling it CRPS and its most common to find in upper extremities. So I think that might be why my pain Dr wouldn't touch it? My ortho Dr wants my pain Dr to do sympathetic and geniculate nerve blocks. He just won't do it. I called this morning and they want me in a wheelchair instead of the crutches. I can't bear weight on either leg like that. I will try and do some exploring with Pvns. I hope you get to feeling better as well. It's sounds like you have had about enough too. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so painful with every step you take. I just don't know ? I'm at my whits end. Good luck to you. Thanks for the help. I will research it and see if I can find some answers. Thanks,Tina

Hi, I had my knee drained yesterday and they are testing it. It was filled with blood. I have got some of my results back from the drainage and I'm freaked out a little. Don't know what they mean? Also leg has filled up with fluid again. I don't feel very good today. Thanks,Tina

    Hi Tina,

Could you get referred for another opinion? Not fair they write you off like that!

I really feel for you as ongoing knee pain alone is awful.

I hope you get something sorted SOON.

    I'm sending you a big hug 🤗

    All the best

Good evening Marilyn, Thank you for caring and the warm wishes. I have to wait 1 year from original surgery date. Which will be in April. I pray to God I'm better by then. It's been a tremendous recovery process. I don't think 7 surgeries in a short time really helped too much. I will see ortho Dr on Wednesday and hopefully he will finally see why I been having so much trouble? He pretty much knows it was a failed surgery. We just keep pushing forward but in the process thi mgs are getting worse for me and I'm struggling. Thanks again, Tina
