Amitriptyline

I have had moderate and sometimes severe neck pain for about 6 months and my GP recently prescribed Amitriptyline as I was having trouble sleeping as well. After a few days I noticed a massive improvement almost pain free and sleeping much better also. However after about two weeks I noticed I was having trouble passing urine to the point I became scared of getting urinary retention.I have an enlarged prostrate and have been taking medication (Tamsolosin and Finasteride) for over a year.Spoke to my GP again and he advised to stop taking the Amitriptyline and has referred me to a spinal clinic for investigation about my neck pain.Has anybody else had trouble with passing urine when on this drug, I am so dissapointed as it was working so well on my neck and sleep problem

Check out Tasolosin I understand that can cause passing urine concerns.

You can check the drug on site or go on NHS CHOICES, check on their drug index.

I take both medications and I do have problems with urgency.

I have had the same with Imipramine, which is another medication from the same tricyclic anti-depressant group. Had to halve the dose and all was ok again.
