I was diagnosed with TGN about 5 years ago with severe pain in left side of face.

Medication ( a combination of gabapentin and carbamazapine) has helped manage the most severe pain but still have electrical, burning pain from lower eye through facial area. Also, when I have hygenist cleaning of teeth each six months, the extreme pain begins for weeks after. Does anyone experience dental work as a "trigger? Thanks

    Oh yes. Dental work, eating, talking, shaving, you name it. You could talk to your doctor about increasing your dosage, or look into more permanent treatment options.

    My TN is in my mouth and around my teeth and to have my teeth cleaned is terriable afterwoulds. A dental visit is a nightmare before I go. Your story is like so many people's.   Go to your GP and get an appointment to see a neurologyst.     Also join TN Association UK. You can find it on line. You will get a lot of help from people that have experience of TN.        Don't suffer alone get some help.

    Yes, the trigeminal nerve ends in the mouth, dental work is a huge trigger

    I have had TN since 1997; the last four years the pain is getting worse and I have been told by a Specialist that this is due beause i am getting older.  Like you, approx four years ago I visited the dentist, for dental work, and in the middle of the dental work,  the pain was excruciating.  I suffered the pain until the dentist was finished, and told the dentist the problem. 

    The pain was so horrendous, and still is, I have never been brave enough to return to the dentist. 

    I thought the "trigger" from the dentist was due to e having MS as well. Intersting to read about you also having pain triggers from the dentist.
