Problem with my eyes

Hi everyone, please can you tell me what iritis looks like. I have had people ask if I've been crying lately. No but my eyes are very sore and when I looked in the mirror, I saw that they are very bloodshot and inflamed. I have pain around the right side of my face from the upper jaw to the top of my head. Not really a headache but sore. Any advice please.

I've had iritis a few times. My symptoms were different than your description.

My eyes/face had no change. My eyeballs hurt. Light was painful. I wanted to stay in low light and had to spend much time resting my eyes, closed. The brighter the light meant more intense pain It helped to wear sunglasses. I wore them inside and outdoors. Iritis is very serious and leads to blindness for some.

Please see an experienced ophthalmologist immediately. As I understand, only an ophthalmologist can look into the eye to identify iritis.

On several occasions (March to May of various years), I had urgent appointments for potential iritis. The incidents over the last 10 years were all due to allergies, not related to AS. I had headaches and pain in the eye(s). Each of those times I did not have light sensitivity.

I hope this helps. Good luck to you!

Thanks Kathleen, I think it might be allergies as the Kapok tree outside my house is shedding it's seeds on fluffy stalks floating in the breeze. It makes me sneeze but this time it's only my eyes. I will ask the neurologist next time I see her. We don't have an eye specialist here.. a 4 hour drive away, Don't much like traveling in the car for that length of time...so I will try to grin and bear it unless it gets a lot worse. Thanks for the advice...G

Hi Iv had iritis a heap of times and it always starts out the same with me eye beginning to water and feel hot then it moves to becoming red and sore and very hard to c into any short of light or even go outside I would mostly spend all day inside a dark room

I always get the same to sets of drops to fix it which helps pretty much straight away ones a steroid and the other is milky looking which makes the eye less red and less painful I would suggest going straight to an eye doctor so u can get the drops straight away! And keep a spare prescription incase it ever comes back!!

Hi Baz, I'm not sure if this is Iritis or allergies. There's no eye doctor where I live...so am just soldiering on right now. Will try eye drops again. Thanks for your help..G

      Hi Gloria,

I just want to clarify that regular drops don't help iritis. Liquid Tears type eye drops can bring relief for a moment, but do not help the inflammation. Try some allergy OTC medication and maybe a nasal spray and see if that gives relief. When my eye pain was caused by allergies, it was considerable sinus pressure under and behind my eyes as well as through the ears. If you do not have pain when exposed to light, it might be allergies.

Since your neurologist is so remote s/he may be able to check for you, please go in right away.

My neurologist is not too far away but the eye doctors are way down south, 4 hours away. So I will contact my neurologist and ask her to help. I doubt that we would have the right eye drops here in Bali but I am going overseas soon and will try there. You are right about the normal types of eye drops, have tried them without luck.  Thank you again...G
