Evorel Conti making me bleed.

Posted , 7 users are following.

Hi there, i am 53, have been on Evorel Conti for a year now, although they help with the flushes, sleepless nights and restless legs they are causing me to bleed. At first it was once a month, but now it is every 2 weeks although not heavy. GP referred me to have a scan etc to check the thickness of the lining of my womb, no obvious reasons for bleeding, so am still on full dose of Evorel, i was wondering if anyone out there had experienced this?

    Hi Kay.

I started using the evorel conti patches last september after 3 months of no periods and beginning of night sweats etc. I'm 58. I then had period 4 weeks later and another 4 weeks after that then 6 weeks then nothing yet but breasts are very tender so I think one on the way!

I have had mid cycle spotting when wiping for many years so that has never concerned me. But after this last period in December I was losing a little every day for over 3 weeks. . Dark not bright red. Seen gyne last week and going for ultrasound scan tomorrow. I'm not worried. I think it is probably just our hormones fluctuating and settling. I do have small fibroids so am interested to see if they are growing or shrinking. I'll let you know if they tell me anything.

      Hi Maisie,

Hope the ultrasound went ok, any news on the fibroids?  It seems like a bleed of some sort is quite the norm for some, not sure if its the HRT, but of late have really itchy skin, to the point were i have made myself bleed with scratching, the doctor did not think it was connected to the menopause or HRT, anyone else suffered in this way? thankfully she percscribed me Dermol 500 lotion, which seems to be doing the trick.biggrin

      Hi Kay

I had the tummy scan and then vaginal scan. She would only tell me that the fibroids were still there and didn't appear to have grown. She said she would send her report to the gyne doctor and he would send me an appt to discuss. So have to wait now.

I did for a while cut about a quarter off my patches, maybe you could do this to see if it helps with the itching? and may lessen the bleeding.

I haven't had period yet, It's all very confusing this peri meno stuff isn't it!

      Hi Maisie,

Hopefully all is well for you.

Yes, the one thing that struck me when i first started going through the menopause and feeling like an alien had taken over my body was how little specialist help there is for women out there. Yes, GP's are under limited resources, but for a long time i felt so alone with this, as my mother died when i was 4, my sister 2 years older than me seemed not to suffer as i have.

      Thankfully forums like this exsist.

Hi Kay, I get very itchy skin sometimes, it's one of the symptoms of the menopause. I take clarityn (Loratadine) allergy tablets) and it stops it completely, you can get them on pfescription.

Oh yes I have taken them I forgot! I'm surprised Kays doctor didn't say it was a meno symptom. You can buy them over the counter in the UK.

Maisie, if you have itchy skin as a recurring problem (as I do) you can get them prescribed (they are quite expensive) other allergy tabs will work. i am over 60 so I don't pay for prescriptions any more smile

Hi, just saw this post. I was itching like mad. always symetrical itching on arms and back and face. My doc said not connected. So Iv been taking Cetirizine (anti hystamine) it seems to work.

My problem is im bleeding every 2 weeks. Been on patches 13 months. Had biopsy. Clear. Had internal Hystoscopy Clear. Got another appointment soon. The bleeding is a nuisance as I need to wear pant liners that give me thrush. So if not bleeding im itching. At least im not sweating and up all night, and can wear winter jumpers. Big problem is weight gain of over a stone per year. Gosh being female is a bugger!

Hi Behappy, Evorel is notorious for spotting/bleeding.  I have changed to Femoston. It's well tolerated and I have no complaints so far.. It has stopped my night and day sweats and my mood has lifted. Itching (also described  as tiny insects crawling over your skin) is very much associated with menopause and is listed on the symptoms lists. As I mentioned in a previous post, I take Clarytin when I get the itches and it works every time (it lasts for 24 hours too).. good luck and keep us posted.

    Hi Kay

I have gone through similar and am now on my fifth type of HRT over the past two years.  The one I was started on a couple of months ago seems okay so far.  I have had to have two hysteroscopies and many biopsies taken because of bleeding etc.  Previous HRT made me bleed for two weeks and had to go out to buy super sized tampax and hadn't needed them in years.  I was switched to an HRT called Indivena 2mg/5mg and seems to have a different type of Progesterone in it.  Others could give me diarrhoea as well.  I am just keeping my fingers crossed that it stays okay for me.

      Hi Barbara,

I have considered asking the doctor to consider changing my HRT to another, thought i would give Evorel 6 more months and see if the bleeding stops.

Kay, same here, I find sometimes if a part of the patch comes unstuck a couple of days later I have a spotting, i have been 'messing about' with cutting my patch down from full to just over half and every few weeks I will get a slight spotting. It's the hormones settling down, also if I get stressed I get spotting too. I've been on Everol for 14 years.

      Hi Pat,

Sometimes my patches becomes unstuck and peels off, although i have not noticed an increase in bleeding because of this....shall watch out for it though.
