Sorry for the long essay but I would really appreciate some advice.
So I'm 28, had a long traumatic birth with my 4 year old which I also had an episiotomy.
Only last summer after having a dreadful cough I felt pressure down below which was also brought on by intense exercise on a trampoline.
So I went to the gp to be examined and was basically told i had a 'prolaspe'. No further info was given and at the time I didn't know what to even ask! She didn't bat an eyelid and sent me off feeling like it was really no 'biggie'. She told Mrs he would 'refer' be but for what I had no idea.
Soon enough I had a letter come in the post for an appointment at a 'bladder and bowel' clinic.
Whilst I was waiting I found the 'Hab it' programme/DVD that definitely helped.
Appointment day came and I went, I couldn't be examined due to time of the month but spoke to a lovely nurse, but unfortunately she only told me what I already knew and to keep up with my kegals with my 'squeezy' app. So I did! But also continued my DVD.
So I had a big 3wk holiday coming up to Florida with all my family! This caused major panic for me as I knew all the walking that would be involved in and around the theme parks! It was my daughters first time and I didn't want to hold ppl back.
So I paid privately to see a urogyne dr, she was lovely and told me I had a mild cystocele and mild upper enterocele. Also that the uterus descended a little when bearing down. She fitted me with a ring pessary which was great until it felt sore a wk later, so she changed it for a soft folding one which worked a treat! This was fitted just 3 days before
My holiday so I was anxious to see how it would be but I was amazing and I managed to enjoy my holiday to the fullest. The dr get confident I wouldn't require the pessary when I got home as she said she only fitted it for the holiday and that physio would help me alot l.
I came home but ended up getting ill and had a bad cough! I left in the pessary thinking it might give extra support with the coughing. I took it out and was relieved not to feel anything 'too bad' and my physio was pleased when she saw me! I continued to do my DVD and was making amazing progress! I was symptom free apart from my time of the month! But then I was noticing I was getting sore after each period and every month it would feel worse. I treated it as thrush first couple of times but the 3rd time it was really painful and went to the gp who said I had sores on my cervix and I'm currently awaiting the results even though they have gone now, I would
Still like to know what could be causing it.
So whilst I have these sores, I feel such fullness so the only pelvic exercises I done was some kegals.
Now the soreness has gone but the fullness is there! I feel worse than I did originally if I remember rightly. I'm constantly lifting one leg to separate the 'stuck together feeling' I have!
I can't understand why I went from being symptom free 2 wks ago to this! I don't understand if or how things have gotten worse as I'm so cautions with everything now etc my posture, lifting and exercise!
My hope was that this was something I could maintain but I just feel like everything is getting worse and I'm struggling to cope. This has caused me extreme anxiety and knowing this could only get worse is making me wonder how long I can go on physically feeling like this. I've already accepted I won't be having another child which was awful. Does anyone have any advice for me? As you can tell I'm in a bad place / panic mode.
Also, I used my pessary yesterday but it didn't completely remove my symptoms like it did back in November for my holiday which now leads me to believe it's gotten worse or that I might have a rectocele as I've heard pessaries don't really help that.
For anyone who read this whole thread, thank you! I know it's super long

lauren you describe life with a prolapse very well. The way it feels etc. It sounds as though things have deteriorated somewhat. If you are still seeing the physiotherapist could she confirm this? I hope she's linked to your urogynaecologist because then she'll be able to refer you back if necessary. All you can do is continue with your pelvic floor exercises until you get another update on the position of the prolapse.

I have an appointment with my urogyne dr on 2nd March! It's been a long wait! I might see if I can see my physio before but I know they're not as experienced in diagnosing as the urogyne. The physio I'm seeing is privately so I don't think she can get me to see the dr any sooner than the gp referring me. I just don't know why or how things could have deteriorated when I've been working so hard in looking after myself & exercise etc. So disencouraging. One minute I feel like I'm maintaining and improving and next the opposite!

Sometimes lauren despite everything we do things just don't go as we want and a prolapse unfortunately is one of them. Even with a pessary I've seen prolapse worsen due probably to a weakened pelvic floor. Your urogynaecologist will come up with options I'm sure so be prepared with all of your questions written down.

I just feel like my like is over. And only be 28 to me that just counts as more years of suffering. I can't go out dancing with my friends in heels, can't go on long winter walks with my daughter, can't have another baby and soon enough it will cause problems with intercourse with my partner. The anxiety it is causing me is overwhelming. I've already been told they won't even consider me for surgery due to my age. I'm feeling so helpless and miserable.

Please don't feel like that lauren. You are young and I can only imagine how difficult this is for you but please write all of these feelings down and make sure you discuss them with your urogynaecologist. I say this to a lot of ladies and if you can't be faced with reading out your list if questions, just hand the list over to him. I've seen patients do this and a good consultant will spend time discussing your concerns with you. Regarding intercourse, having a prolapse doesn't necessarily mean problems because the prolapse moves to the side and it's amazing just how many men don't notice. I'm surprised you won't be considered for surgery, age shouldn't be a problem. If he won't operate in my opinion he needs to come up with a very good alternative!

Hi Lauren,
I would wait and see if if consultant is prepared to hi with surgery now that prolapse appears to be worse. Don't see how you are too young at 28yrs old and still menstruating you should be able to recover fairly well and quickly from surgery and I would have thought the physio exercises should be strengthening your pelvic floor muscles.
If consultant still not prepared to go with surgery get a 2nd opinion. Living with prolapse is increasingly difficult and generally prolapse itself doesn't improve without surgery.
Pessary works quite good for a while if you can get the right size but long term use can cause ulceration.
I'm no expert and you'd best advice will be from your consultant, you'really GP and of course Matron who has a wealth of information
Hope you find a suitable solution that is suitable for you.
Please take care and try to protect your pelvic floor as best you can.
Healing hugs,
Phyl x ?💖

At your age Lauren and after only one child you need to see a gynae and insist you get some answers, and if you don't, go to another gynae until you get a proper diagnosis and explanation. It's extremely unlikely that you have a prolapse at all, I had a tilted uterus at your age but only got a prolapse after four children and not doing kegel exercises

Hi Samantha, thanks for your reply!
I have had a diagnosis back in October, I like to think my urogyne dr is accurate in this and that since things may have changed. I would for what you have said to be correct and that didn't have a prolapse. It unfortunately I know that isn't the case. Especially with the progress I was making earlier on in this jounrney. :-(

Sorry lots of typos in there. I meant I like to think my urogyne dr is accurate and that things have prob just changed/got worse.
I do 100% unfortunatly have prolapse. My gp also told me the same as you have due to my age but both my urogyne dr & physio have both confirmed that I do
