    Hi Lesley

They put me on Liothyronine after I had my completion thyroidectomy in 2014. I was on it for 2 weeks & must say I felt wonderful on it.

I had never taken thyroxine before then. I had Graves but developed cancer so had to have the thyroidectomy.

I was put on thyroxine after 1st visit to see oncologist as I cannot have radio iodine due to Thyroid Eye Disease.

I hated thyroxine! Felt awful, tired, put on weight, just felt like c**p all the time! There is no other alternative for me. I cannot go back onto Liothyronine as my TSH must be completely suppressed. I was put on it in error as they hadnt taken my medical history into account! It took 2 years (of tinkering) for me to settle on thyroxine. I am now on 125mcg which seems ok.

You will have your blood tested every 6 months (or whatever your Endocrinologist decides) & the dosage will be altered if need be. I usually see the Endo every 3 months & the Oncologist also every 3 months with 2 or 3 months between the 2 specialists.

You will adjust to thyroxine eventually. Some people adjust quicker than others. Once you are balanced you'll find you will feel more like 'normal' again.

    Good luck 😉

Ps: when they tell you, you lose weight when hyper thyroid, it's not always true! I never lost weight despit being thyrotoxic for a long long time. In fact I gained weight!!

I should also say I did some research online after being given thyroxine. It seems quite a lot of people do not get on with Liothyronine. I was an exception, typical me!!

I don't know if you will adjust to Liothyronine, but maybe do some research on the net as I think I remember that some times they use a 'combination therapy' which is I believe using smaller dosages of both. Don't quote me on that it's been nearly 3 years since I looked into it.

Due to the cancer I had the left lobe removed for biopsy then the right lobe of the thyroid in the May of '14.

I hope you get sorted Lesley.

    Marilyn xx
