So sorry to hear how difficult your situation is. Presumably your doctor has diagnosed RLS and checked that your blood iron (ferritin) levels are within the normal range.

There are a number of drugs available to treat RLS and it will take time to find one which works for you. I suggest you go back to your doctor and tell him how you are feeling.

I inherited RLS - fortunately in a mild (so far) form. I find it useful to avoid caffeine after about 4pm, drink no more than one glass of wine each day and exercise regularly. I also keep my bedroom at as low a temperature as possible and find this helps.

Just want you to know that you are not alone and I know what you're going through. I've been diagnosed with RLS for 20 years. When you get stressed out, your RLS increases in frequency and intensity. It becomes a vicious cycle. I've seen many doctors over the years and very few seem to know anything about RLS.  You may have better luck by seeing either a nuerologist or sleep specialist? If you make an apt. with either, ask them if they have had any experience in treating RLS and if so, how successful was their treatment. Chances are they will know more about it and start you on a medication that will give you better relief.

2 most effective things for me, soaking in a hot bath and using a bean bag as follows:  I make my bean bags with flannel and the cover with fleece.  8 inches by 20 inches, fill with approximately 6 cups of winter red hard wheat berries (so when laying flat about 1 inch high).  Heat in microwave for 2-3 minutes, take out and move around to mix wheat berries, and heat another 2-3 minutes.  Lie in bed face down with rear end up (looking cute:-), and bag at back of knees, between both legs, touching thighs and calfs.  Instant relief.  The wheat berries will stay warm for up to 30 minutes. Adjust legs to what is comfortable over time.

    Hi lisa,

have had many sleepless nights due to rls, was getting desperate. Did not want to use medications due to side effects. So during those sleepless nights I scoured the internet for some relief. I stumbled across a site for essential oils. What I found were recipes for rls relief so I could sleep, I thought what do I have to lose. Picked up the oils at a store that does the mixing for me, Escents Aromatherapy Canada. Along with 300mg Calcium citrate, 1-1 magnesium.

Grape seed oil 100ml, lavender 16 drops, cypress 16 drops, lemon 12 drops, rosemary 12 drops, and juniper berry 8 drops.

Massaged oil into my leg and wore a heating pad for 30 min. In the evening. Massaged oil once again into my leg just before bedtime and took one pill of the calcium citrate.

I slept like a baby no leg activity or pain at all during the night, I was so ecstatic I did the happy dance, I will continue doing this nightly because the oils are not harmful to me and the calcium/magnesium are also part of my new healthy plan to sleep better.

Had to share and hoping this works for you as well, too all a good sleep.
